Sunrise Credit Union has donated $30,000 to 20 local food drives across southwestern Manitoba in celebration of its 15th anniversary.
The donations aim to bolster the efforts of organizations dedicated to alleviating food insecurity in the region.
Some of the recipients are Heart 2 Heart in Baldur, Boissevain Food Pantry and Boissevain Christmas Cheer in Boissevain, as well as Samaritan House Ministries, Helping Hands Centre and the Salvation Army in Brandon, among others.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the initiative, Sunrise Credit Union president Tim Klassen highlighted the significance of the Christmas season in extending goodwill.
“The Christmas season presents opportunities to spread peace and joy to those around us,” Klassen said.
“Our mission is to support the organizations in our communities that are dedicated to improving the lives of local families.”
The beneficiaries of the credit union’s gesture, he said, extend beyond Brandon, encompassing communities such as Glenboro, Deloraine, Hartney, Holland, Melita, Minnedosa, Reston, Erickson, Ste. Rose du Lac, Treherne, Virden and Shoal Lake.
The donations, Klassen added, seek to amplify the impact of local food drives during a time when the spirit of giving resonates strongly.
