Drugs found during traffic stop
Two people in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation were arrested by Virden RCMP after a traffic stop discovered one occupant was violating a curfew and methamphetamine was found in the vehicle.
Around 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, police were patrolling Highway 21 in the First Nation when officers spotted a vehicle travelling well under the speed limit, according to a media release sent out by the RCMP on Thursday.
After stopping the vehicle, officers discovered the 40-year-old woman from Sioux Valley driving the vehicle was violating the conditions of a curfew.
The passenger, a 35-year-old man from Sioux Valley, was the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant.
When police searched the vehicle, they found methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a rifle and ammunition.
Both people were arrested and charged with drug-related offences, with the driver also charged with firearm offences. They were released and are due to appear in court at a later date.
Man on bail re-arrested
A 21-year-old man was arrested by Brandon police on Wednesday after a search of his home revealed that he was not following his bail conditions.
Officers went to the man’s residence on Alaska Bay to verify that he was meeting the conditions of his bail on charges of cocaine trafficking and firearms offences.
Those conditions include that he must consent to searches of his residence and that he is not allowed to possess any cellphones.
In searching the home, police found two cellphones and $12,000 in cash. He was arrested and was due to appear in court on Thursday on charges of failing to comply with a release order and possession of property obtained by crime.
Two couples arrested on assault charges
Brandon police dealt with two incidents of spouses allegedly assaulting each other on Thursday evening.
In the first case, police received a report that a 23-year-old woman had been involved in ongoing disputes with her 22-year-old husband. Upon arrival, officers determined neither person had been injured.
They are both due to appear in court on March 7 on assault charges.
In the second incident, officers received a report of a disturbance on the 1500 block of Stickney Avenue.
Police determined that a 35-year-old man and his 39-year-old wife had assaulted each other, but neither had been injured. They were also arrested and were released to appear in court on March 11 on charges of assault.
Pedestrian stop turns up crystal meth
A pedestrian stop on the 200 block of 18th Street led to a 33-year-old man being arrested early on Thursday.
In a release, police said after stopping the man, officers had found that he was the subject of an arrest warrant and release orders requiring him to abide by a curfew and not possess any illegal drugs.
When searching him, officers found him to be in possession of crystal meth. He was arrested and was due to appear in court on Thursday to answer for the arrest warrant as well as charges for possession of meth and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
Police investigating computer thefts
Six computers were stolen from a business on the first block of 18th Street early on Thursday morning.
The business owner, contacted by his alarm company about a disturbance, arrived to find the front windows of the building had been smashed.
Police determined that two men stole six laptops from the store worth approximately $4,100. Five of the computers were Lenovo Idea PAD Slim 3 models with 15-inch screens and the sixth was a Microsoft Pro Surface 8. The incident is still being investigated.
