The Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba is putting out the call for those who want to become a director and shareholder for the historic non-profit organization.

Nominations for the board of directors are now being accepted. The elections will take place during the annual shareholders meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dome Building.

During the meeting, officials will present a report on the events the organization hosted in the past year, including the Manitoba Summer Fair, Manitoba Ag Ex and the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair.

New shareholders and volunteers are welcome, said outgoing president Kathy Cleaver, who noted that shares are only $10, which enables the shareholder to vote for a director or become a director.

“It’s an opportunity to bring our community together,” Cleaver said. “While directors serve their term, they are expected to sit on a committee — eventually taking over as chair of that committee for any of our signature events.”

The board has six full-time staff, four part-time staff and 39 directors. There are 14 board positions open, consisting of 13 three-year terms and one two-year term.

Specific skills such as agriculture, business, marketing and communications will be valuable assets for any nominee.

The deadline for nominations is Jan. 19, 2024.

Anyone who is interested will find the application form on the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba website https://provincialexhibition.com/.
