Applications for heritage grants worth more than $1.6 million are available in 2024, Brandon East NDP MLA and Sport, Culture, Heritage and Tourism Minister Glen Simard announced in a Monday media release.
The largest program is the Heritage Resources Conservation Grant, which is dedicated to assisting conservation efforts for designated heritage sites. The deadline for the program and its $868,000 in funds is usually Jan. 15, but has been extended to March 1 this year.
The Heritage Grants Program, which has a stated aim to help Manitobans identify, protect and interpret the province’s heritage, will disburse $395,300 with an initial intake deadline of Jan. 31 and a second deadline of June 1.
The Community Museum Project Support Program has $240,000 available to Manitoba museums looking to launch one-time initiatives promoting reconciliation, equity, diversity, accessibility, inclusion, COVID-19 recovery or collections management. Its application deadline is Feb. 4.
The final program is the Military Memorials Conservation Grant, which has $163,000 available the support the preservation of monuments, cenotaphs, sculptures, plaques and cairns dedicated to those serving in the Canadian Forces. Applications must be submitted by Feb. 15.
“Manitobans know that we should be proud to celebrate our past through heritage initiatives, while our government continues to make investments for a brighter future,” Simard said in the release.
“By building and recognizing our past, we are able to chart a path for continued growth in our province and make life better for all Manitobans,” he said.
