Dauphin RCMP seize drugs after traffic stop
Dauphin RCMP seized cocaine, oxycodone and cash after a traffic stop last Friday.
Around 7:30 p.m., RCMP conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Main Street South in Dauphin. A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of 18 grams of cocaine, 80 oxycodone pills and other prescription medication, a knife, cash and drug paraphernalia.
Lorne McKinnon, 56, is facing numerous charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking, resisting arrest and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He was remanded into custody.
Arrest in Swan River home invasion
Swan River RCMP have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with a home invasion and robbery earlier this month.
On Jan. 13, RCMP received a report of a woman injured in her home on Sixth Avenue in Swan River. Emergency crews provided treatment to the 39-year-old woman, who had sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Police investigation determined that the woman had been home with her baby when a man who was known to her broke in through the back door. He allegedly assaulted her and threatened her with a firearm.
He then took money, possessions and keys to a vehicle before fleeing the home.
The baby was not injured.
Police issued a warrant for Alex Ames, 22, of Swan River. On Jan. 19, he was arrested at a home in Swan River. He faces numerous charges including robbery with a firearm, assault with a weapon and break and enter with intent.
Ames remains in custody.
Charges stayed against Sask. trucker
Brandon prosecutors have stayed charges against a Saskatchewan trucker who was arrested in Brandon last summer.
James Gaspari, 48, was charged with assault, assault by choking and forcible confinement after he was arrested at the Corral Centre last July.
On Monday in Brandon provincial court, the Crown stayed the charges against Gaspari because prosecutors had not been able to locate the complainant. At the time Gaspari was arrested, police had said the complainant was a woman from Calgary who claimed she had met the truck driver at a truck stop in Calgary.
In court, the Crown said the woman was transient.
Gaspari is still facing charges in Calgary of forcible confinement and sexual assault after allegedly picking up a seven-month pregnant woman, who was also homeless, in his semi-truck.
Calgary provincial court confirmed that Gaspari’s trial in Calgary is scheduled to begin on April 29.
