TODAY
• Day — Sioux Valley Dakota Nation will be hosting its annual Dakota Nation Winterfest for four days inside the Keystone Centre (except for the volleyball and three-on-three basketball, which takes place at the Brandon University’s Healthy Living Centre). The festival includes events for all age groups including square dance competitions, talent show, Wacipi competition in various age groups and grand entries, basketball, volleyball, pool tournaments, bingo, moccasin games, and adult and minor hockey tournaments with teams from all over Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. • 7:30 p.m. — The Minnedosa Performing Arts Committee presents, Notas de 4, an original Latin Jazz ensemble from Calgary, at Tanner’s Crossing School. MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES
• Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Presently the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum is closed, but the Canteen Building is available for rent year-round, and you can shop the Tiger Moth Gift Shop by appointment by calling 204-727-2444. The museum will reopen on April 1, weather permitting. The museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial is open to the public from sunrise to sundown.
• Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). • Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Our Second World War vehicle exhibit includes eight military vehicles used by Canadians during the Second World War. Military vehicles provided firepower, logistical support, mobility and protection for the Canadian Army, enhancing their effectiveness during the Second World War. • Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art (2021 Victoria Ave. at Brandon University) — The Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art presents “Nostalgiacore,” an art exhibition with works by Brandon University’s fine arts faculty featuring: Lisa Wood, Kevin McKenzie, Lini Xu and Kevin Eichi deForest. Special opening takes place today from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition features paintings, ceramic sculptures, photography, drawings, sound installations and immersive installations. Hours: Thursdays to Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. until Feb. 18.
• Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first, the AGSM boasts two art galleries, studios for youth and adult classes, a gift shop that supports more than 90 Manitoban artists and artisans. In the Community Gallery: “Young & Creative in Southwestern Manitoba,” until April 13. • Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. • Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. • 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum (within the Brandon Armoury, 1116 Victoria Ave.) — The museum is open Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed for lunch. Also open by appointment.
• ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa, in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.
• Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware merchant and prominent citizen in the community. We are now closed for the season and will open again in the spring of 2024.

• Feb. 8 — Brandon University will be hosting the movie “UnCharitable,” at the Evans Theatre at 5:30 p.m. This film has been sparking dialogue around the ways in which philanthropic giving is regulated, and exploring ways to unlock the power of the charitable sector. • Feb. 14 — Come and join us at The Green Spot for Happily Ever Laughter, an evening of laughter and entertainment from comedian Dean Jenkinson, an award-winning comedian and writer, at 7 p.m. Get a flower arrangement delivered to your sweetheart on Feb. 12 to receive two tickets to this event. • Feb. 15 — The International Wine and Food Festival returns to the Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Culinary arts students research and prepare over 40 fabulous wine and food pairings from around the world for an evening of culinary delight. • Feb. 16 — The Brandon University School of Music presents a graduate choral conducting recital featuring Marla Fontaine, voice (from the Studio of Dr. Andree Dagenais) assisted by Justine Burke, piano; Kara Dixon, piano; Lee Martel, violin 1; Amy Brown, violin 2; Colson Wiebe, viola; Carlos Castro, cello; Daniel Pegus, double bass. This recital takes place at the First Presbyterian Church (339 12th St.) and all are welcome. No admission charge.

• Feb. 22 — The Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba’s annual President’s Dinner will be held at the ballroom at the Victoria Inn with recording artists Doc Walker. This annual gala is one of Brandon’s most prestigious formal evenings, developed in support of agriculture awareness.
