Albert Naim was elected president of the Beef Calf Club at the recent reorganizational meeting in Glenboro.
Presented with Keystone Awards, symbolic of winning a grand championship, at the Toronto Royal last night were George DePape, Richardson Stock Farms, Winnipeg; R.D. McPhail, Alex McPhail and Sons, Brandon; and Connor Beech, Pilot Mound. The awards were given at the 35th annual Royal Banquet, tendered to Toronto exhibitors by the Manitoba Department of Agriculture.

Rocky Addison, a 35-year-old Brandonite, was named coach of the Brandon Wheat Kings at a press conference held by the Western Canada Hockey League team last night.
Hockey great Bobby Hull was at the Brandon Consumers Co-op located at Seventh Street and Princess Avenue today.

Manitoba’s ice queen stole back her crown. Winnipeg’s Connie Laliberte captured the Scott Tournament of Hearts provincial women’s curling championship at the Virden Curling Club this weekend with a win over Darcy Robertson, also of Winnipeg.
The 20th Dakota Ojibway Winter Tribal Days was a huge hit, attracting about 20,000 visitors to the Keystone Centre this weekend.
TWENTY YEARS AGO
The Supreme Court of Canada has upheld the so-called spanking law that allows parents to use physical force to discipline children, but has set legal guidelines aimed at ensuring reasonable limits. In a 6-3 judgment Friday, the court rejected claims that the legislation, first enacted more than a century ago, should be struck down as a violation of children’s rights.

Manitoba schools will see a two per cent — or $24.4-million — funding increase, Education and Advanced Learning Minister James Allum announced Thursday.
