Hey there, time traveller!

A traffic stop just west of Brandon last Thursday resulted in the arrest of two people from Steinbach and the seizure of more than $1 million worth of fentanyl.
The stop was part of a joint forces traffic safety and enforcement initiative between the Brandon Police Service and the RCMP Traffic Services on the Trans-Canada Highway in and around Brandon.
Around 11:30 a.m., members from BPS and the RCMP stopped a vehicle with a Manitoba licence plate about five kilometres west of Brandon. The stop was due to debris that appeared to be blocking the view out of the front windshield, police say.
Fentanyl is displayed following arrests made in January 2024. Recent overdoses in Winnipeg are concerning and the option of calling a public health emergency should be considered. (Submitted)
According to a press release issued by BPS, a search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a bag containing about nine kilograms of fentanyl. Police say the street value of the drugs is estimated at $1.1 million.
Travis Choboter, 27, is facing charges for trafficking fentanyl and for possessing property obtained by crime. Julianne Sorokowski, 23, was also charged with trafficking fentanyl.
The charges against Choboter and Sorokowski have not been proven in court and they remain innocent until proven guilty.
Both are from Steinbach and are scheduled to next appear in Brandon court on Feb 1.
