A weekend camp that provides a safe place for children and teenagers who are grieving the death of a loved one is now accepting applications for this year’s event in May.
Camp Bridges is free to attend and offers traditional camp programs as well as age-specific activities to help campers share and learn from others in an environment where they feel secure and supported.
This is Prairie Mountain Health’s 16th year organizing the camp, which will be held at the Circle Square Ranch in Austin, May 24, 25 and 26.
Besides the usual camp activities for children in the woods like hiking, archery and campfire gatherings, there will also be facilitated sessions to help the young people develop coping skills when faced with anger, grief and pain, in a caring, supportive environment.
Children and youth between the ages of seven and 15 who live in Manitoba are welcome to apply.
The application deadline is May 1, with 40 applicants accepted.
Volunteers are also needed for the May weekend, with a March 20 deadline to sign up.
PMH is accepting donations to cover the cost of the camp rental, meals and activities.
