Brandon City Council has approved a 2024 budget featuring a 9.4 per cent property tax increase, larger than all previous increases over the last 10 years combined.

The second day of deliberations on Sunday featured heated debate over how much overtime city staff are incurring, transfers to reserves and over the size of this year’s requested tax increase.

Items proposed and approved by councillors include a doctor recruitment program, a program to recruit heavy duty equipment officers and mechanics and the use of approximately $3.9 million in infrastructure funding received from the province back in August to put towards the first phase of renovations at the Sportsplex.
