Hey there, time traveller!

The Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba unveiled its plans along with the official poster for the 2024 Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, set to take place from March 25 to 30 at the historic Dome Building in Brandon’s Keystone Centre.
General manager Mark Humphries said the countdown has officially begun, adding there are exciting additions attendees can expect.
“We are adding a new ticket pricing strategy, offering reduced prices in the afternoon to make the fair more accessible for families,” he told the Sun during a special reception on Friday to mark the countdown.

“Also, a chore team competition in the main arena, inspired by traditional farm work with heavy horses, will be another unique and fun experience for visitors. We will have increased entertainment in the Manitoba room, featuring new and upcoming artists on the Manitoba Hydro stage.”
The 50/50 draw, he said, will be guaranteed a $10,000 payout on March 30. “No matter how much we sell, there’ll be a $10,000 guaranteed win. But you’ve got to be in it to win it.”
As the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair has held a special place in Brandon’s history since 1882, event chairs Clint Swain, Wayne Buhr and Candace Bowles said they were excited to unveil this year’s poster.
The poster, featuring the work of renowned artist Weiming Zhao, captures the essence of the fair and encourages Manitobans to “Take the Leap” and attend the event, organizers said, noting Zhao’s journey from China to Canada and his prolific career as a painter.
“We are thrilled to announce that he has generously donated his captivating artwork images to the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba for reproduction on the official poster of the 2024 Royal Manitoba Winter Fair,” Humphries said. “The event poster features his evocative creations, providing a visual feast and celebrating the fusion of art and culture at this iconic event.”
Swain, the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba’s new president, said he loves the images displayed on this year’s poster.
“From the heavy horses to the food concessions and main arena showing, the colours and the look seem to capture this prestigious event,” he said. “The poster encourages all Manitobans to ‘Take the Leap’ and come to the Fair.”
Swain, who was elected president after spending the past two years as vice-president, said one of the significant developments this year is the expansion of the patio behind the historic building.
“This enhancement aims to elevate the overall fair experience for attendees,” he said. “We’re very excited for this year. The entries are positive and the entertainment promises to be fantastic. March 25 to 30 will be a fantastic week for our organization and the city of Brandon.”
