Brandon landscaping company Alternative Group has won two prestigious provincial awards of excellence from the Manitoba Nursery Landscape Association.
The accolades highlight the company’s commitment to exceptional garden and landscape creation, showcasing the outstanding skill and workmanship of Manitoba’s landscape professionals.
The first feather in Alternative Group’s cap is the coveted Award of Excellence for Landscape Build, a testament to the company’s prowess in effectively utilizing space.
Alternative Group marketing manager Mike Mair said the winning project, Sten Blomst, stands out for its multifaceted design.
“This concept was designed to include a firepit, multiple levels including retaining walls and steps, a stunning granite water feature and many pollinator-friendly plants,” he said. “The result is a magnificent canvas for entertaining throughout the various functional spaces. We are very proud of the job our dedicated crews did completing this project, and the design created by our incredible team.”
The Group also secured the Garden Centre Award of Merit for the second consecutive year. This accolade, Mair said, acknowledges retail garden centres that demonstrate excellence in growing teams through training and career advancement, promoting gardening as a hobby through public engagement, utilizing technology for growing practices, employing sustainable methods and actively engaging with their community.
“Alternative Group’s Garden Centre has consistently demonstrated these qualities, earning the company not only provincial recognition but also the Canadian Landscaping Award of Distinction in 2023,” he said.
The MBNLA Awards of Excellence attract submissions from landscape construction, maintenance and design firms, showcasing projects ranging from $5,000 to more than $150,000. The rigorous evaluation process involves esteemed judges from various sectors of the horticulture industry, ensuring that only the best projects receive recognition.
