The former chief administrative officer of the Rural Municipality of North Cypress-Langford is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the Carberry Curling Club.

Trisha Dawn Fraser, 36, was charged with theft over $5,000 after a Carberry RCMP investigation that began last year. The charge against Fraser has not been proven in court and she remains innocent until proven guilty.

On Dec. 7, 2023, Carberry RCMP received a report that the former treasurer of the Carberry Curling Club had stolen money during the past year.

The police investigation found that while the accused held a volunteer position as treasurer for the club, about $30,000 was stolen from the club over the course of a year.

She then left the treasurer position and while in the role of chief administrative officer for the RM of North Cypress-Langford, she allegedly used unauthorized funds from the RM to pay back the curling club.

The Sun reached out to the RM of North Cypress-Langford for comment, but the RM declined the request.

However, a receptionist at the RM said the CAO position was filled by another person about a month ago. On the RM’s website, Teresa Parker is listed as the RM’s CAO.

According to reporting in the Neepawa Banner and Press, Fraser was dismissed from her employment with the RM on Dec. 15, 2023.

The RM released a series of three public statements last December. The first statement, on Dec. 11, stated that the rural municipality was investigating an employee who had been placed on paid leave.

One day later, the RM announced it was closing the office to the public from Dec. 13 to Dec. 15.

On Dec. 15, the RM released a public notice stating that it decided to dismiss CAO Trish Fraser from her employment. The statement did not provide any other details.

Fraser is scheduled to appear in Brandon court on April 4.
