Outflow from the Shellmouth Reservoir was increased on Friday in preparation for spring runoff, the provincial government announced Friday.
Water from the reservoir, which is located on the Saskatchwan-Manitoba border west of Roblin, flows into the upper Assiniboine River. The water eventually flows through Brandon and into Winnipeg, where the Assiniboine meets the Red River at The Forks.
A release from the government said the increase in flow from 300 cubic feet per second to 500 would lead to a one-foot rise in the water level on the Assiniboine from the reservoir to Russell and a half-foot rise from Russell to Brandon.
