The City of Brandon closed the Red Willow Trail and the fat bike trail at Parker Boulevard and Sixth Street North on Thursday because of overland flooding from the Assiniboine River.
“Please avoid these areas as these fast-moving flood waters can be very dangerous,” a post to the city’s social media accounts said.
As of 2 p.m. on Thursday, the water level on the Assiniboine River at 18th Street was at 1,175.94 feet above sea level, according to the provincial government’s website. At that location, the city’s dikes are at 1,188.25 feet above sea level.
The province’s website stated Thursday that the Assiniboine is forecast to peak at 1,176.6 to 1,177.1 feet above sea level between April 23 and 25.
A flood warning remains in effect for the Assiniboine River from the Shellmouth Dam to Brandon.
