RCMP find remains of missing man
The remains of a 55-year-old man missing since October were found last Sunday in a pond in the RM of Oakview, RCMP reported on Friday.
Jamie Wade was last seen at a gas station in Brandon on Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. Three days later, Minnedosa RCMP issued a release stating that he was missing.
In November, RCMP put out an update stating that search and rescue teams and police dogs had been dispatched to search for the Oakview man, but did not find him.
On April 20, police found items belonging to Wade in an Oakview pond. The next day, RCMP major crime services and an underwater recovery team recovered Wade’s body from the pond.
An autopsy determined that Wade’s death was not criminal in nature.
Police make several theft arrests
Brandon Police Service made arrests in four separate theft cases on Thursday.
On Thursday morning, police tracked down a 39-year-old man reported to have stolen $160 worth of goods from a store on the 900 block of Victoria Avenue. He was released after his arrest with a July 4 court date to face a charge of theft under $5,000.
Earlier this month, police were notified by a business at the Corral Centre that a man had stolen $1,125 worth of goods across two separate incidents.
With the help of video surveillance, police located a 34-year-old man on Thursday and charged him with two counts of theft under $5,000. Records indicate the man is also on bail for 22 other charges. He was held in custody overnight and was due to appear in court on Friday.
Though it was not stated whether it was from the same business, police also tracked down a 55-year-old woman alleged to have stolen $1,700 worth of goods from a Corral Centre business on the same date.
She was also located using video surveillance on Thursday and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. She was released with a July 4 court date.
Finally, on Thursday evening, police were called to a business compound on the 1500 block of Moreland Avenue after staff called to say that a man was trying to enter vehicles in a secure area.
The man had left the area by the time police arrived. A police dog located the suspect hiding in a patch of long grass.
The 37-year-old was allegedly found in possession of break-in instruments and was due to appear in court on Friday on a related charge.
Assault arrest made
A 43-year-old man was arrested by Brandon Police Service on Thursday for allegedly assaulting a 37-year-old woman.
On Thursday morning, officers arrested the man after receiving a report that a man was attacking a woman in public.
After being arrested, police found that the man was under a court order not to communicate with the woman, who was reported to have not suffered any injuries.
The man was due to appear in court on Friday on one charge of assault and two charges of breaching an undertaking.
Teen turns himself in
Brandon police arrested a 15-year-old boy wanted in connection with an incident at a business on the 1100 block of 18th Street on Thursday.
On April 4, the business told police that three youths had damaged several stalls in its bathroom as well as setting off a fire extinguisher, which caused around $5,000 in damage.
On April 17, a boy was arrested and charged with mischief to property under $5,000.
Then, on Thursday, a 15-year-old boy surrendered to police in connection with the incident. He was released from custody and is due to appear in court on June 25 on a charge of mischief to property under $5,000.
Police said the third youth involved in the incident would be charged in the future.
Woman accused of assault with a weapon
A 21-year-old woman was charged with assaulting a 27-year-old woman with a weapon on Friday morning after she allegedly threw merchandise from a store at her.
The business on the 700 block of 10th Street had reported to police that the two women were fighting.
After arriving, police determined the accused was intoxicated and was lodged at BPS headquarters. She was due to be released when sober with a July 18 court date to face a charge of assault with a weapon.
The victim was said to be unharmed.
