A culvert failure has caused the closure of Highway 254 for eight kilometres south of Highway 3 in the Municipality of Brenda-Waskada, Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure said on Monday.

Repairs are expected to be completed by this afternoon.

A statement by the province provided to the Sun explained that the highway was closed due to a “washout on the road.”

“Provincial Road (PR) 254 near Medora has experienced a culvert failure approximately 3.5 kilometres south of Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 3. PR 254 is closed while repairs are being made and the road is open to local traffic only,” the statement said.

“Other drivers are encouraged to use PTH 21, PR 452 and local municipal roads during repairs.”

David Vanmackelbergh, head of the Municipality of Brenda-Waskada council, said he does not expect the closure to have a large impact on the community.
