Western Motors is having its Western Days car sale. Executive driven 1964 demos are selling at good prices for example: 1964 Cadillac Sedan De Ville four-door, fully loaded is going for $8,550; 1964 Chevrolet Bel Air six-cylinder, four-door sedan, $3,346; 1964 Chevrolet V-8 Biscayne four-door wagon, $3,689; 1964 F85 Oldsmobile four-door sedan, $3,568.

FIFTY YEARS AGO

Sydney Parsons, chairman of the Manitoba Development Board, is one of six persons reappointed to one-year terms as directors of A.E. McKenzie Co. Ltd. of Brandon. Also retaining their positions are Pat Kelleher, Ian Blicz, Allan Chisvin, R.A. Clement and Tim Sumida. Glen Lawson is a new appointee to the board.

Alf Kennedy has been appointed manager of the Brandon Shoppers Mall branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia. Mr. Kennedy replaces Ed Deis.

FORTY YEARS AGO

Electrical power has been restored to most areas of southern Manitoba that were hit by last weekend’s harsh spring storm. Total damage to hydro lines and equipment has been set at about $6 million, with as many as 1,000 poles down in 20 small communities.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

Brandon Shoppers Mall will no longer be open on Sundays in response to the February decision by Brandon City Council.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

Brandon Police Service sergeants Marc Alain and Leon Flannigan are among 40 police members across the country who will be honoured with a Governor General’s Award for exemplary service to their communities. Alain and Flannigan will be in Ottawa next week to receive the Order of Merit of the Police Forces from Gov. Gen. Adrienne Clarkson.

TEN YEARS AGO

The vacant, boarded-up building at the corner of Seventh Street and Rosser Avenue has been issued a building permit, and downtown advocates hope it will spark some movement on the project. Renovations began at 701 Rosser Ave. in early 2012 which included removing the second storey of the building. But the project has since stalled and the building has been completely boarded up for quite some time.

Trying out for Canada’s national hockey teams never gets old for Neepawa’s Halli Krzyzaniak. The 19-year-old blueliner is one of 49 players who were invited to the under-22 women’s national team strength and conditioning camp next week in Hamilton along with fellow local NCAA Division I players Ashleigh Brykaliuk of Brandon, Glenboro’s Brittni Mowat and Bruxelles’ Cassidy Carels.

A courteous ear. A wise tongue. Sober consideration. Impartial decision-making. It’s these four attributes Justice Vic Toews pledged Friday to work to provide everyone appearing before him in a court of law. Toews was officially sworn in as a Court of Queen’s Bench judge after nearly two decades of living in the public eye as a sometimes-controversial politician.
