Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP used a spike belt to stop a septic truck stolen from Ebb and Flow First Nation on Monday morning, RCMP said Tuesday.

Around 9:20 a.m., police received a call that the truck had been stolen and had been seen driving down Provincial Road 278.

An officer responding to the call saw the truck drive through a stop sign at the intersection of PR 278 and Highway 68, turning to go west along the highway.

When the officer tried to stop the truck, the driver kept driving erratically, eventually swerving into the oncoming lane and forcing motorists off the road. No one was hurt and there were no collisions as a result.

Eventually, police used a spike belt that stopped the truck, diverting it into a ditch.

Police say the woman driving the truck jumped out and ran away but was quickly caught and arrested.

A 29-year-old woman from Dauphin was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, flight from police and dangerous driving. She was later released from custody.

The truck was recovered by community officials from Ebb and Flow First Nation.
