The theft of almost $50,000 from a local community centre reported earlier this year was from Valleyview Community Centre, city manager Ron Bowles said at Tuesday’s Brandon City Council meeting.
Brandon Police Service announced on May 9 that a 30-year-old woman had been arrested for sending $48,767 over hundreds of e-transfers from a community centre’s funds to her own accounts, but police declined to name which centre had been the victim of the theft.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Coun. Jason Splett (Ward 8) asked for the identity of the centre to be disclosed to provide residents with peace of mind.
The accused is due to appear in court on May 24 on a charge of theft over $5,000.
