About 30 soldiers from Canadian Forces Base Shilo have deployed to assist the Canadian military’s mission dubbed Operation IMPACT in Iraq, Jordan and Lebannon.
According to a press release, most of the soldiers are from 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, with a handful of members from the 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and other military members from the base.
The Shilo members will serve in several different roles throughout various locations in the Middle East for the next six months and return to Shilo in the fall.

Operation IMPACT is a Canadian Forces mission to build the military capabilities of Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon. It began as part of the global coalition working to defeat Daesh in Iraq and Syria.
Daesh is a terrorist organization which advocates for radical interpretations of Islam and which rose to global prominence in 2014. The group has also been known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
