• 10:15 to 11 a.m. — Story and Song Circle with Michelle at the Brandon Public Library. Preschoolers can join Michelle for stories, songs and crafts. The presence of a caregiver or parent is required. No registration necessary.

• 5 p.m. — The ninth annual Blessing of the Wheels to kick off the 2024 cruisin’ season will take place at 114 Ashgrove Blvd. with St. George’s with Redeemer Lutheran at 5 p.m., with a barbecue at 6 p.m. Start the season off by having your vehicle blessed for a safe and enjoyable motoring season. After the blessing, cruise to Crow’s General Store for a cool treat.

• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Brandon Farmers’ Market at The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave.). Baking, jams and jellies, pickling, yarn, bison, beef, beeswax candles, crafts and more. This event runs year-round.
• 5 p.m. — City of Brandon’s City-wide Yard Sales are taking place today and tomorrow (west of 18th Street). • 6:30 p.m. — The Brandon Riverbank Discovery Centre in partnership with Riversong Wilderness Outfitters an Wilderland Adventure Company are offering a Canoe Leadership Course over the weekend. This Outdoor Council of Canada and Paddle Canada combination course of Field Leader (Hike and Paddle) and Intro Tandem Canoe Skills is designed to help outdoor leaders gain foundational canoe skills and group management training. Successful students will be able to take a formal leadership role in the planning and execution of a recreational tandem canoe day trip. Ideal for wilderness guides, outdoor educators and summer camp staff. • 9 a.m. — The Brandon Garden Club will be holding its annual plant sale fundraiser at the Dome Building located on the Keystone Centre grounds until 3 p.m.
• 9 a.m. — Touch-A-Truck Brandon returns to the grounds at the Keystone Centre until 4 p.m. This is a unique fundraiser that is an interactive, outdoor family-friendly experience to allow kids to touch, climb, explore and discover all kinds of vehicles in a safe environment. A large variety of trucks are on hand every year including construction, farm, heavy-duty and emergency vehicles. There will be a “quiet hour” from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. free of sirens, music and honking for those who require it. A canteen serving hotdogs, burgers, Bannock dogs, chips and drinks will also be on hand. The cost is only $5 per person and payable in cash at the gate.
• 11 a.m. — It is Arbor Day in Brandon in the big tent on the Keystone Centre grounds! Fun for the whole family with tree planting, climbing demo, sapling giveaway, live music, fee barbecue, face painting, kids’ activities and a trade show. On until 3 p.m.
• 11 a.m. — You are cordially invited to attend the unveiling of our Indigenous Display at 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Musuem (1116 Victoria Ave.) at 11 a.m. Use the 11th Street entrance. All guests are asked to be seated by 1-:45 a.m. Light reception to follow.
• 1 p.m. — The City of Brandon Parks and Recreation presents another Great Brandon Mystery First Edition until 5 p.m. This is a competitive mystery-solving program for adults. Inspired by Explorer’s Club, teams of two to five will race against time to solve one of Brandon’s greatest mysteries. Participants will be required to travel around solving challenging clues and puzzles and even completing challenges. The first team to solve the mystery will receive a prize. • 10 a.m. — The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum at McGill Field (Brandon Airport), will be hosting Canadian Armed Forces Day, and celebrating the 100th anniversary of the RCAF today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come join us in this family friendly event and get up close with various aircrafts from the Royal Canadian Air Force along with our own flying aircraft that include the Cornell, Tiger Moth, Harvard, Stinson and the Fleet Finch. You will also have an opportunity to speak to the pilots that fly these aircraft. There will be participation from CFB Shilo, local museums, community groups and other aircraft, vintage vehicles and displays from various aviation and military groups. Hotdogs and drinks for sale and fun activities for the whole family. Admission is $10 for adults; $5 for 6 to 17; 5 and under are free. Family rate $25 (2 adults and 2 youth).
• 2 p.m. — On Jan. 23, 1978, Const. Dennis A. Onofrey, was tragically shot and killed at the age of 27 in Virden, Manitoba while investigating a suspected stolen motor vehicle. The refurbished 7th Avenue North Bridge in Virden will be dedicated in Constable Onofrey’s honour at 2 p.m.

• Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — In honour of RCAF’s 100th anniversary, the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War, has switched to summer hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week at the Brandon Municipal Airport. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a Second World War-vintage hangar serving as a display area for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. RCAF members who lost their lives during the Second World War are honoured on the museum’s RCAF Memorial wall.
• Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Currently on exhibit is “The Sound of History: Band and Musicians of Western Manitoba” until Sept. 7. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). • Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Our Second World War vehicle exhibit includes eight military vehicles used by Canadians during the Second World War. Military vehicles provided firepower, logistical support, mobility and protection for the Canadian Army, enhancing their effectiveness during the Second World War. • Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first, the AGSM boasts two art galleries, studios for youth and adult classes and a gift shop that supports more than 90 Manitoban artists and artisans. • Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. • Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware and lumber merchant and prominent citizen in the community. The main house depicts how a family in the Victorian era would have lived. We also have two additional Annexes and a Coach House available for viewing. • June 7 — Frozen Fire Studios and Westman Mental Wellness and Suicide Prevention Association presents the second All-Ages Sober Social at the Royal Canadian Legion No. 23 in Neepawa featuring live music, sponsor-created mocktails, and dancing. This evening highlights resources towards mental health, trauma and addictions in our local Westman area and raises money for organizations for awareness efforts and programs. • June 7-8 — Westman Drama Ministries production of Mary Poppins Jr! will take place at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church (635 McDiarmid Dr.) This show is rush seating with doors opening 30 minutes before the schedule start time. The show is geared to the whole family and is about 90 minutes in length. Baking and drinks will be sold before the show and during intermission in the lobby, however no food will be allowed in the auditorium. • June 8 — Brandon’s 5K Walk to End ALS is a family and pet-friendly event for all ages and abilities. Register as an individual or come as part of a team and help us continue to provide help and hope for people affected by ALS/MND. • June 8-9 — The Southview Flea Market and Market Garden opens again for the season at Southview Industrial Park, Building No. 2, Patricial Avenue East (known as the old duck barns) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. This is a charity-themed comedy show with proceeds towards Cross Paws Animal Shelter. The tour will consist of comedians Nelson Mayer, Scott Porteous and Chris Basso.

• June 13 — City of Brandon Parks and Recreation is hosting a Brandon Municipal Cemetery Historical Walking Tour. Join us for a guided tour as we stroll through our beautiful cemetery and learn about a few of the fascinating people who have been laid to rest over the last century. There are two separate tours: June 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. with theme “Inspiring Stories from the Brandon Cemetery”; June 22 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. with theme “Murder and Mayhem Stories from the Brandon Cemetery.” These offerings are at no cost. • June 13 — The Riverbank Discovery Centre is ready to launch the beginning of our paddle programming. Join us for our debut River Roam from 7-9 p.m. If you have a kayak, canoe or paddle board sitting in your garage or if you are curious about trying it out, this is your night! The first session will cover some basic safety before we take to the water and explore Brandon’s Assiniboine River. Rental kayaks are available on-site from A&L and will be available at a special cost of $20, but please book rentals ahead of time by emailing programs@riverbank.mb.ca.
• June 15 — The Keystone Centre is throwing a free community event to celebrate 50 years! You are invited to join us on the Keystone grounds at 2 p.m. for a day of fun for all ages. Featuring a Classic Car show, live music by Begonia, Boy Golden and Fontine, outdoor market, food trucks, kids zone, free barbecue, free cupcakes, fireworks and more! Come help us celebrate.
• June 15 — Peak Performance & Athletics presents Peak Boxing Event – Brandon Fitness Combat Academy at the Riverbank Discovery Centre. Over 15 action packed fights scheduled with entries from across Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Weigh-in at 11a.m.; doors open at 5 p.m.; show at 6 p.m. Early bird tickets $25 or at the door $30. • June 15-16 — The 27th annual Little Valley Jamboree will be held at the Erickson Recreation Centre. This musical festival is held to raise awareness, support and funds for children living with special needs in the area and throughout Manitoba. This year are recipients are: Evie Kerkowich, Isla Melvin and Daphne Robb. June 15 lineup includes Barn Yard Bandits (kids’ band), Valley Women, Steven Smith Trio, Live auction, The Bad Marleys, The New Highway 25 and Better Than. June 16 lineup features Brad Johnson and The Talent, Trevor Crook, J4K, Meet the Recipients, Lucky Ned and Zach Weston. (subject to change). Times: June 15 2 p.m. to midnight; June 16 noon to 6:30 p.m. Admission: Adult weekend pass $25; day pass $15; youth 17 and under are free. • June 16 — Westman Jams is holding a jam session and barbeque at Crow’s General Store (Rosser Avenue East just past The Green Spot) from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The barbeque will support the Reg Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund that financially assists music students from southern Manitoba with scholarships to attend the International Music Camp held at the Peace Gardens every summer. Come hear some local musicians and have lunch for a good cause. There is always a chair waiting for new musicians too!
• June 17 — Are all your Ducks in a Row? A seminar hosted by Stanley Park Lawn Bowling club at Stanley Park clubhouse (corner of Princess Avenue and 15th Street) will take place at 7 p.m. Topics include the importance of a will, stresses executors face and tips to minimize them, tools to help organize estate paperwork, probate issues and solutions and more.
