TODAY

10:15 to 11 a.m. — Story and Song Circle with Michelle at the Brandon Public Library. Preschoolers can join Michelle for stories, songs and crafts. The presence of a caregiver or parent is required. No registration necessary.

7 p.m. — City of Brandon Parks and Recreation is hosting the Brandon Municipal Cemetery Historical Walking Tour. Join us for a guided tour as we stroll through our beautiful cemetery and learn about a few of the fascinating people who have been laid to rest over the last century. There are two separate tours: June 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. with theme “Inspiring Stories from the Brandon Cemetery”; June 22 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. with theme “Murder and Mayhem Stories from the Brandon Cemetery.” These offerings are at no cost. 7 p.m. — The Riverbank Discovery Centre launches paddle programming. Join us for our debut River Roam this evening from 7-9 p.m. The first session will cover some basic safety before we take to the water and explore Brandon’s Assiniboine River. Rental kayaks are available on-site from A&L and will be available at a special cost of $20, but please book rentals ahead of time by emailing programs@riverbank.mb.ca

7 p.m. — Join Brandon Pride and the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba during Pride Week for the opening reception for “Dysphoria” with artist TJ Southam until 9 p.m. Dysphoria is an exhibition about one artist’s experience of living in an incorrect body.

9:30 a.m. — Everyone is welcome to join us in front of city hall on the corner of Ninth Street and Victoria Avenue for the raising of the inclusive Pride flag with some words from the Brandon Pride Committee.

5 p.m. — The Pelican Lake Ag Society presents the annual Ninette Fair today and tomorrow with a horse show, kids’ entertainment, car show and beer gardens. Live bands in the beer gardens.

7:30 p.m. — Mecca Productions presents “Rent” at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. Tickets available at the WMCA box office, call 204-728-9510 or visit wmca.ca

SATURDAY

9 a.m. to 2 p.m. — The Riverbank Discovery Centre Farmers’ Market (545 Conservation Dr.) features 37 full-time and part-time vendors offering a wide range of products. Event runs on Saturdays until the end of September.

10 a.m. — National Garden Day event at Stanley Park (1410 Princess Ave.) until 2 p.m. Includes plant giveaway, live music, free barbecue, face painting, bouncy castles, spray park and more.

1 p.m. — The Great Brandon Mystery, a competitive mystery-solving program for adults. Participants will be required to travel around solving challenging clues and puzzles, and even completing challenges. Concludes at 5 p.m. $25 for individual spots, $100 for team. To register, call 204 729-2471.

1 p.m. — Pride in the Park takes place at Rideau Park (399 Park St.), directly after the arrival of the Pride March from Brandon City Hall. Opening speeches with Brandon Pride Chair Aly Wowchuk and Grand Marshal Flora Hex followed by the union of Anastasia Gibson and Wendy Friesen. Live music and performances by House of Hex, Hansel, Nora Wilson with Arian and Anastasia Jane. Free community barbecue after the wedding ceremony.

2 p.m. — The 27th annual Little Valley Jamboree will be held at the Erickson Recreation Centre today and tomorrow. This musical festival is held to raise awareness, support and funds for children living with special needs in the area and throughout Manitoba. This year’s recipients are Evie Kerkowich, Isla Melvin and Daphne Robb. Today’s lineup includes Barn Yard Bandits (kids’ band), Valley Women, Steven Smith Trio, Live auction, The Bad Marleys, The New Highway 25 and Better Than. Admission: Adult weekend pass $25; day pass $15; youth 17 and under are free. Silent auction, 50/50 draws, photo booth, dancing and lots of fun for kids, too. Food and refreshments. Make sure to bring a lawn chair.

2 p.m. — The Keystone Centre is throwing a free community event to celebrate 50 years. You are invited to join us on the Keystone grounds at 2 p.m. for a day of fun for all ages. Featuring a classic car show, live music by Begonia, Boy Golden and FONTLINE, outdoor market, food trucks, kids’ zone, free barbecue, free cupcakes, fireworks and more! Come help us celebrate. 8:30 a.m. — Father’s Day fishing competition and breakfast in Dinsdale Park (315 Assiniboine Ave.) until 12:30 p.m. Event is hosted by Men’s Resource Centre of Brandon. Fishing supplies and rods will be provided. Free breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Dad and me fishing competition (must register upon arrival).

11:30 a.m. — Westman Jams is holding a jam session and barbecue at Crow’s General Store (Rosser Avenue East just past The Green Spot) until 4 p.m. The barbecue will support the Reg Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund that financially assists music students from southern Manitoba with scholarships to attend the International Music Camp held at the Peace Garden every summer. There is always a chair waiting for new musicians, too!

5:30 to 7 p.m. — Storytime and Supportive Parenting Workshop with SERC at the John R. Robbins Library (270 18th St.). Topics included in the workshop include language, terminology, how to support someone who comes out and resources and supports available in-person and online. 7 p.m. — Women in Harmony rehearses on Mondays at Trinity United Church in Brandon (1515 Sixth St.). 1 to 4 p.m. — Join members of the Brandon Scrabble Club for an afternoon of Scrabble, coffee and laughs at the Brandon Public Library. Scrabble boards are provided, and all levels of skill are welcome to attend. No registration is required.

7:30 p.m. — Worldwide sensation the Magic Men of Australia are coming to Brandon at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. Australia’s most anticipated men are heating up the town as Magic Men’s “Feel the Magic” showcases its most talented men in a heart-stopping live performance. The 40 (210 18th St. North) — Canadian recording artist Jesse Bandura will take the stage at The 40 for a weekend of rockin’ country music! Cover is $10. This is an 18+ event and photo ID is required for entry.

Sand Hills Casino (777 Sand Hill Dr., Carberry) — You and What Army performs at the Oasis Bar & Grill Friday and Saturday nights. Live and always free.

Georgie’s Lounge at the Keystone Motor Inn (1050 18th St.) — Every Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight, there is karaoke in Georgie’s Lounge.

Chez Angela Bakery and Café (Unit C, 29 10th St., Brandon) — Free Music Friday: the Pride Takeover Edition with performances by Anastasia Jane and Jasmine Krahn from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Great Western Roadhouse (1125 18th St. at Canad Inns) —We’re doing it again: Friday Night Brooks and Dunn Boot Scootin’ Boogie Off. Then on Saturday at 9 p.m. it is the Pride Week After Party: The Wedding Reception with special guest DJ and much more.

MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — In honour of RCAF’s 100th anniversary, the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War, has switched to summer hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week at the Brandon Municipal Airport. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a Second World War-vintage hangar serving as a display area for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. RCAF members who lost their lives during the Second World War are honoured on the museum’s RCAF Memorial wall.

Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Currently on exhibit is “The Sound of History: Band and Musicians of Western Manitoba” until Sept. 7. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Our Second World War vehicle exhibit includes eight military vehicles used by Canadians during the Second World War. Military vehicles provided firepower, logistical support, mobility and protection for the Canadian Army, enhancing their effectiveness during the Second World War. Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first, the AGSM boasts two art galleries, studios for youth and adult classes and a gift shop that supports more than 90 Manitoban artists and artisans. In the Main Gallery: “Of Armour Bespoke, Of Fabric, Of Skin, Of Within.” In the Community Gallery: “Dysphoria,” running until Aug. 10. Hours: 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. For more information, visit agsm.ca.

Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed all statutory holidays. Special tours can be arranged by calling the arts administrator at 204-554-0023. 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum (within the Brandon Armoury, 1116 Victoria Ave.) — The museum is open Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed for lunch. Also open by appointment.

Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. Guided tours and visits are Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Admission by donation. Booking in advance is strongly recommended. Phone 204-717-1514 or email bgmainfo@wcgwave.ca.

ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.

Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware and lumber merchant and prominent citizen in the community. The main house depicts how a family in the Victorian era would have lived. We also have two additional Annexes and a Coach House available for viewing. Wasagaming Community Arts (110 Wasagaming Drive, Clear Lake) — Wasagaming Community Arts cordially invites you to attend the first exhibition of the 2024 season featuring the works of Douglas Ingram, David Arbuthnott, Shirley Rayner and Susan Graham McDougall. The exhibit runs until June 25.

June 20 — Lady of the Lake presents an evening with Ladylight, the most renowned medium in Brandon and Westman area. Attendees will receive spiritual communication, lovely refreshments and a unique experience. The event runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $60.

June 20 — The Paw Resort and Wellness Centre (58147 Gray Rd.) is holding a Pet Party in the Park located in their Frolic Field from 5 to 11 p.m. This evening will be filled with tons of fun and something for everyone. The Woof Dog Performance will take place after supper. Live band, barbecue, caricature portrait of you and your dog, balloon dogs, dunk tank and hope dogs. Free event. Bring your pet-friendly pets. June 21 — The Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium presents Terra Lightfoot with supporting artist Chris Ghodoni at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the WMCA box office or by calling 204-728-9510.

June 22 — The Mitchell Makoons Trio featuring Matt Kozicki on bass and Marcel Hapel on fiddle, takes to the patio at Poor Michael’s Emporium in Onanole at 7:30 p.m. Please join us in supporting this up and coming Métis roots/rock trio. June 22 — The Dock and Section 6 Brewing (1126 Princess Ave.) are teaming up to throw a Summer Block Party. Come and join us from 1 p.m. to midnight while we shut down the street for an all day party featuring music, food, beer, axe throwing and a makers market.

June 22 — The Pioneer Power and Equipment Club 26th annual Summer Show will take place at the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum. Pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m.; kids pedal tractor pull at noon; parade of equipment at 2 p.m.; antique tractor pull at 2:30 p.m. Road Rebels Car Club will be attending with their show vehicles. 50/50 and raffle draw. July 1 — Come saddle up for an unforgettable Cowboy Supper Trail Ride at Lucky Break Ranch in Rivers.
