Westoba Place was filled with joy and pride on Tuesday afternoon as 237 students from Vincent Massey High School celebrated their graduation.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the Class of 2024, with heartfelt speeches and inspiring messages from school and division officials.

Principal Kurt Hunter, who graduated from the school 21 years ago, opened the ceremony by addressing the graduates with a message that emphasized the importance of embracing new beginnings.

“First of all, let’s reflect on the benefits of embracing new beginnings,” Hunter said. “Volunteering, whether in established roles or new opportunities, allows us to learn valuable lessons and understand different theories and practices. Pursue your passions and strive for greatness in all your future endeavours.”

Remember, he told the graduates, that success comes in various stages and embraces every opportunity to learn and grow.

Brandon School Division board trustee Kirk Carr also shared words of encouragement and support.

“To the Class of 2024, today marks a significant milestone in your lives, filled with excitement and achievement,” Carr said. “It is with immense joy and honour that I stand before you to bring greetings and congratulations on behalf of the board of trustees. Believe in yourselves. You are working harder than you realize. Pursue your dreams, for they guide you towards success.”

The ceremony continued with a speech from Brandon School Division Supt. Mathew Gustafson, who highlighted the importance of efficacy and community influence.

“Today, we come together to celebrate your remarkable accomplishments. Your success is the result of your hard work and dedication,” he said. “Efficacy, defined as the ability to produce the desired result, is evident in all that you have achieved. It’s not just about having confidence in yourself, but understanding that efficacy and motivation are crucial in fostering strong interpersonal relationships.”

These skills, he said, will serve the graduates in the future, influencing those around them.

“You are influencers in our community. When we share a common belief in working together to achieve common goals and solve problems, we can create positive change and improve the well-being of our community,” he said.

The atmosphere in the arena was one of celebration and hope as the graduates took their first steps into the next chapter of their lives. The support from their families, friends and educators was palpable, underscoring the strong community spirit that Vincent Massey High School fosters.
