The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is investigating the Brandon Police Service after a claim that police cruiser car camera footage was tampered with and cut short.
According to an IIU press release, the BPS notified the IIU on Aug. 19 of a complaint they had received three days earlier.
The complaint was made by a man who was arrested on June 15, 2023, and said that he was assaulted by an officer during the arrest.

He said that cruiser car video footage, which was later provided to him through a Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act request, was tampered with and cut short.
The police watchdog body determined it was in the public interest to investigate.
The IIU is asking any witnesses or individuals who have information or video footage that may assist the investigation to contact their office.
