Drug bust leads to charges

A 36-year-old woman was charged with drug possession and weapons charges after the Brandon Police Service organized crime section executed a drug bust on Friday.

Officers executed a search warrant at a home in Meadowlark Campground, where they located the woman who was charged.

A search of the residence turned up drugs, selling materials, ammunition, a replica handgun, cash and cellphones, police say.

Officers also attended a second location, on Willowdale Crescent, where the woman was also known to be living in a rented bedroom. Inside, officers allegedly found a BB gun, bear mace, and two functioning digital scales.

Police say they found 291 grams of methamphetamine and two grams of purple fentanyl (fentanyl mixed with other substances).

The estimated street value of the meth is about $17,000, and the value of the fentanyl is about $900.

The woman was charged with possession of meth and fentanyl, possessing proceeds of crime, possession of a weapon, unsafe storage of ammunition and possession of ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.

Elgin man dies in collision

A 60-year-old man from Elgin is dead after his SUV crashed on Highway 23, just west of Ninette, on Thursday afternoon.

Around 2:35 p.m., Killarney RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle collision on the highway.

When officers arrived on scene, an SUV was in the northbound ditch. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police investigation determined that the SUV was travelling west at a high speed when it entered the north ditch. It then hit an approach and rolled several times.

The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, and RCMP say that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

High school assault

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday for assault with a weapon after allegedly punching a 14-year-old outside the Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School cafeteria on Sept. 9.

The boy allegedly got the victim in a headlock and repeatedly hit him in the face while wearing large rings on his hand.

Police say that the victim lost a tooth and had his braces damaged.

The boy is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 17.

Theft under $5,000

Brandon police arrested a 31-year-old woman on Thursday and continue to search for another suspect in a theft from a store in the Corral Centre.

Around 1:11 p.m., an employee from a business on the 900 block of 18th Street North reported that two female suspects walked out of the store with about $1,500 in stolen merchandise and left in a vehicle.

Police identified one of the women and arrested her later that day.

She was scheduled to appear in court on Friday. Police have yet to identify the second suspect.
