• 7 p.m. — Ukrainian folk singing sensation Gerdan Theatre will be performing at First Presbyterian Church (39 12 St.) from 7 to 9 p.m. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. This is a 16-member folk singing group from Chernivtsi, Ukraine. • 10 a.m. — Brandon’s “Big One” Arts and Crafts sale takes place in the Manitoba Room and the UCT Hall at the Keystone Centre until 5 p.m. This year is the 35th anniversary with 175 booths of local handmade arts, crafts and food. Daily admission is $5 (12 and under are free). Proceeds go to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation to go toward helping with Cancer Care in Brandon and Winnipeg.
• 10 a.m. — A Halloween-themed dodgeball tournament hosted by the Assiniboine College Students’ Association will be held in the gym of the Victoria Avenue East campus from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This event is open to all students and community, and individuals must register in teams. Participants are welcome to wear Halloween costumes, but face masks or anything hanging off are prohibited for safety issues.
• 10:15 a.m. — The Shoppers Mall and the Western Manitoba Regional Library are hosting Spooky Stories at the Shoppers Mall ( centre court). This is an all ages event with scary stories, mysterious music and sweet treats for all. Put on your best costume and join us.
• 11 a.m. — Join the Brandon Knights Chess Club for a few hours of chess at the Brandon Public Library (710 Rosser Ave.) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Boards and pieces will be supplied. All skill levels are welcome. No registration is required.
• 11 a.m. — Bring your kiddies down to The Dock on Princess (1133 Princess Ave.) for our annual Kids Halloween Party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dress up in your Halloween costume for some fun, games, food and prizes. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian.
• 1:30 p.m. — Let’s Build a Beast in the BJ Hales Natural History Gallery at the Brandon General Museum and Archives at 1:30 p.m. Join us to learn about the collection and get inspiration for crafting your beast, listen to stories and more. • 9 a.m. — Cities Church Brandon (1011 5th Str.) is hosting Candypalooza from 9 to 11 a.m. Wear your favourite princess or superhero costume for a morning of music, games and lots of candy. Get your kids ages six months to 10 years old dressed up in a fun (but not scary) costume and join us.

• 2 p.m. — A Halloween Parking Lot Party will be held in the parking lot of Calvary Temple (620 35th St.) from 2 to 4 p.m. Come and join us for a fun-filled afternoon with cotton candy, popcorn, candy bags, games, prizes, hotdogs and bouncy houses. And it is all free. We are also accepting donation to Samaritan House Food Bank.
• 2 p.m. — Westman Jams gathers on the last Sunday of each month to play classic country music at The Fringe, on Cove Road in Shilo from 2 to 5 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome. We accept donations to the Reg Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund to help send Westman students to the International Music Camp at the International Peace Garden. • 6 p.m. — The Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium (205 20th St.) presents Blippi Join the Band Tour. Blippi will be joined on stage by Meekah, their singing and dancing buddies and live musicians to explore what makes music. This show contains flashing lights, haze (fog) and confetti. It is the tour’s policy that children under two years old so not require a ticket to sit on a parent’s lap but all other customers do. • The 40 (210 18th St. North) — On Friday and Saturday Tronic Soundspace will light up the stage with a journey of sound, light and intergalactic space visuals and vibes! Cover $10. Saturday will also feature The 40 Halloween Howl 2024 Edition so dress up in your best costume. Drinks specials, costume parade, cash prizes for best costume, scariest costume, best duo or group. • Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — The CATPM, Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War, has switched to winter hours: open seven days a week from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Brandon Municipal Airport. On Nov. 5 at 1:30 p.m. in the museum’s canteen, we will have a presentation from the renowned author Ted Barris about his new book, “Battle of Britain — Canadian Airmen in their Finest Hour.” Entrance by donation, his book will be available for purchase. On Nov. 10 at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium at 1:30 p.m., the Mark Humphries Orchestra will be performing a benefit concert in aid of our museum. • Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, this was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls, and women’s wear. Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). • Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — We opened our new temporary exhibit, marking the 110th anniversary of the start of the First World War. The main features of the exhibit include a trench wall, First World War artillery and two machine gun pits. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. • Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and a gift shop that supports more than 60 local Manitoba artists. On Oct. 26 Ann Germani’s The Green Bike Series, “Happiness is a Bike Ride,” with original sketches and tunes of Cape Breton, takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. In the Main Gallery until Nov. 30 is “Sunke Sapa Hdeshka,” a retrospective exhibition of work by the late Elvis Antoine; and “Black Prairies,” which honours more than 100 years of Black cultural production in the Prairies. In the Kayes Community Gallery is “Me, I Think,” by Manitoba author Craig Russell, with a series of nearly 100 selfies taken outside the vernacular of social media and is on display until Nov. 7. • Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. • Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — Museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware and lumber merchant and prominent citizen in the community. The main house depicts how a family in the Victorian era would have lived. There are also two additional annexes and a coach house available for viewing. Currently closed for the season.
