Taxi passengers arrested

A taxi being pulled over by police for its passengers not wearing seatbelts led to their arrest on Friday morning.

Around 2:43 p.m., police stopped the cab in the 800 block of 13th Street.

Officers allege that one of the passengers, a 38-year-old man, was seen stuffing meth between the seats of the taxi. When searched, police allege that he had a quarter ounce of meth and $150 of cash on him.

He was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime and breach of probation. Later, he was released with a Dec. 12 court date.

The other passenger, a 35-year-old woman, was alleged to be the subject of an arrest warrant for breaking and entering as well as assault. She was arrested and was due to appear in court on Friday morning.

Driver fails breath tests

A 54-year-old man had his vehicle impounded by police at the intersection of Lorne Avenue East and Percy Street on Thursday evening.

According to Brandon Police Service, a patrolling officer saw an SUV hit a parked vehicle around 11 p.m. The officer pulled over the SUV and administered two breathalyzer tests, both of which the driver was said to have failed.

The man had his licence suspended as part of an immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was towed and impounded.

Cocaine possession

A woman subject to two arrest warrants for violating a court-ordered curfew allegedly had cocaine in her possession when police caught up to her early Friday.

According to a release issued Friday, police were walking through a hotel on the 3100 block of Victoria Avenue when they found the woman. After being arrested, police allege she had a scale, several empty baggies, about five grams of cocaine and around $3,080 in cash in her possession.

She was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime and possession for the purpose of trafficking. She was due to appear in court on Friday morning.

Airport disturbance

A 30-year-old man was arrested for causing a disturbance at Brandon Municipal Airport early Friday morning.

Around 4 a.m., police said an airport employee reported that a man was banging on the airport doors, attempting to get into buildings, looking through parked cars and telling staff that he was angry. Officers described the man’s demeanour as “confrontational” when they arrived.

Police allege that surveillance footage showed the man dumping out trash and recycling cans onto the road and sidewalk on top of the other behaviour.

He was issued a ticket for breaching the peace and littering and was scheduled to be released from custody the next day.
