Classes resume at Brandon University today after the fall study break.

BU fine arts students will be showcased this week on Wednesday as a ceramics pottery fundraising sale will take place at the entrance to the library building. Then, the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art at BU will display the work of first-year fine arts students, beginning on Thursday. Student art will be featured from drawing, clay, painting and visual design classes. An opening reception will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. Gallery hours are Thursdays from 2 to 8 p.m., Fridays from 2 to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 2 to 6 p.m.

Shrinwantu Pal of BU’s Department of Chemistry will talk about cleaving hydrogen for clean energy in a Science Seminar Series talk on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Room 4-47 of the Brodie building. The talk will also be available online. Email TeepleH@BrandonU.ca for more information.

Business Administration professor Keith Edmunds will talk about the business of Bigfoot in a Faculty of Arts Speaker Series session on Friday at 3:40 p.m. in Room 104 of Clark Hall. He’ll look at how the legendary creature has sparked a niche industry driven by media, merchandise and tourism.

The Bobcats host the University of Alberta basketball teams this weekend at the Healthy Living Centre. The women start things off on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the women tip off at 5 p.m., with the men up next at 7 p.m. The Bobcats women’s volleyball squad is off to Regina this weekend, with the men enjoying a weekend off.

The School of Music is marking Canada Music Week with a concert at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall on Friday at 7 p.m. Admission will be by donation. That will be followed by a performance by the BU Orchestra on Saturday, starting at 7:30 p.m., at St. Matthew’s Anglican Cathedral. On Sunday, the BU Chorale will perform at Knox United Church at 3 p.m., while E-Gré competition winner Justin Saulnier will perform his winner’s concert, on violin, at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The Russ Edwards School of Agriculture and Environment at Assiniboine College is hosting the annual agronomy school on Nov. 27. This one-day event provides agricultural professionals with the latest insights on crop management, soil health, technology and industry trends. The Cougars hockey team and men’s and women’s volleyball teams all play home games this weekend! The volleyball teams play host to Providence University on Friday and Saturday. Game times are 6 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Cougars hockey team plays the University of Wisconsin at J&G Arena both Saturday and Sunday.
