Hey there, time traveller!

A smoke incident at the Shoppers Mall on Monday morning prompted a complete evacuation of the building, limiting access for Brandonites looking to complete their holiday shopping and during what is typically the busiest sales season for retailers.
The mall remained shut for the rest of the day, with some stores opening later in the day.
Brandon Fire and Emergency Services Chief Terry Parlow told the Sun the department received a call shortly before 9 a.m. reporting smoke in the building.

“We were called for smoke in the building, and we arrived and found the location of the problem,” Parlow said.
“Now it’s all been put out, and there’s no fire risk anymore. The last update I received is that the mall staff were just doing some cleanup as a result of sprinklers and such that went off. The fire is still under investigation, but I do believe the mall is reopening in the afternoon,” he said earlier in the day during an interview with the Sun.
Regarding the timeline of the investigation, the fire chief said it would be difficult to predict how long it might take, adding it could be “anywhere from days to weeks,” depending on how long it takes the investigators to determine the cause for the smoke and to conclude their investigation.
He added that fire crews remained on the scene for some time to assist the mall staff with damage mitigation and cleanup efforts, given that the smoke had activated the building sprinklers during the incident.
Shoppers Mall marketing manager Megan Anderson told the Sun the facility remained closed for most of the day, but declined to provide specific details about the cause of the incident.
“Earlier today, there was an incident on the property. The centre remains closed as the fire department and our teams investigate,” she told the Sun in an interview on Monday. “Notifications will be provided as soon as we can reopen for business. We thank our tenants and guests for their patience during the interruption.”
Parlow added the mall was expected to reopen around noon, but as of Monday afternoon, it remained closed.
A post on the Shopper’s Mall Facebook page was updated later in the day to say that the mall would be open for business during regular hours on Tuesday.
