Hey there, time traveller!

The Wheat City’s annual lights display — Waterfall of Lights — at the outdoor skating oval officially opened for public use on Friday, just in time for the holiday season.
The venue has long served as a community gathering place for friends, families and neighbours, who can skate on or walk around the oval, enjoying the frosty delights of winter weather in western Manitoba.
“It’s such a festive place for, you know, friends and families, neighbours to gather and, you know, meet up. I know different groups would go and skate together during the Christmas, New Year’s season, and just celebrate and have fun,” said Merrilea Price, a corporate communications manager for the City of Brandon.

“They have music sometimes and different events depending on the season. I don’t know if they have anything booked this year. But yeah, they have music playing until 11 o’clock, and then they also have some different fire pits around in the space,” added Price.
Located at 2020 McGregor Ave., the Brandon skating oval will remain open beyond the holidays and into the new year, depending on the weather.
“Some years it’s open until March, depending on the weather. Other times it’s like mid-January. Last year, we had a really mild winter, so it wasn’t open that long, but other years it’s been open for like four or five months. So it kind of just depends what kind of winter we have,” concluded Price.
Whether you were born and raised in Brandon, or a newcomer, the Waterfall of Lights promises to spread joy among members of the community who are looking for festive activities to take part in during this time of year.
