ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON

A 20-year-old man faces assault charges after allegedly attacking his girlfriend and threatening another person.

Brandon police officers were called to a residence on Saturday at about 1 p.m., for a report of a disturbance. They say a 20-year-old man assaulted his girlfriend and threatened another person with a knife before leaving.

Police found and arrested the suspect just after 6 p.m. when he returned to the residence. He was charged with assault, assault with a weapon and two counts of failing to comply with a release order and was scheduled to appear in court on Sunday.

MAN CHARGED WITH UTTERING THREATS

A parent called police Friday to report a disturbance between her adult children. The parent’s 34-year-old son had allegedly damaged property by punching it and threatened to beat up his brother.

Officers say the suspect had left the residence by the time they arrived, but he returned Saturday to cause more issues.

The man was charged with uttering threats, mischief under $5,000 and held in custody until his scheduled court appearance on Sunday.

POLICE RESPOND TO STABBING

On Saturday afternoon at about 4:30, Brandon police responded to a residence after receiving a report of a possible stabbing.

When officers arrived, they found a man with a large cut on his arm. He was taken to Brandon Regional Health Centre in an ambulance.

A 19-year-old man who police say was their suspect, was arrested nearby. The man was charged with two counts each of assault with a weapon and breach of probation. He was held in custody at the police station until sober and given a court date of Feb. 20.

THEFT OF ‘MERCHANDISE’

A 29-year-old man faces a theft charge in connection with merchandise being taken from a Brandon store.

On Saturday just after noon, police responded to a report of a shoplifter at a business in the 1500 block of 18th Street.

Police say they found a 29-year-old man in a nearby lane who was still in possession of merchandise worth approximately $220. Police didn’t specify what the stolen goods were. The man was charged with theft under $5,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 27.

DISTURBANCE AT HOSPITAL

Saturday at about 9:30 p.m., police responded to a disturbance at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. There, they say they found an intoxicated man who was causing issues for security staff. The man was charged with breaching the peace and held in a BPS detention cell until sober.
