MAN DEAD AFTER NEW YEAR’S EVE 2-VEHICLE COLLISION

A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Settlers Road on New Year’s Eve resulted in the death of a Winnipeg man, 32, in the Rural Municipality of Springfield, Oakbank RCMP said.

The Mounties responded to a call reporting the collision on Tuesday at around 6:35 p.m. and were able to confirm that the victim was driving northbound on Settlers Road and collided with a westbound SUV upon entering the westbound lane of the Trans-Canada. The man was pronounced dead on scene.

The SUV was being driven by a woman, 18, from the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie, who suffered minor physical injuries.

Oakbank RCMP, along with a forensic collision reconstructionist, are continuing to investigate.

BPS ARREST 4 MEN ON NEW YEAR’S DAY

Brandon Police Service (BPS) made multiple arrests on New Year’s Day in unrelated cases. A man, 36, was arrested, early on Wednesday morning, after being identified for having an unendorsed warrant of arrest. He was held in custody and appeared in court on Thursday.

Police went to a residence on Cornell Bay on Wednesday morning in response to a complaint about loud music causing a disturbance for the last 24 hours. Upon reaching the scene, they arrested a man, 29, without incident, who also had an outstanding arrest warrant from Dec. 28. The accused also faces other pending charges, including forcible confinement, robbery with weapon, theft of motor vehicle and flight from a police officer. He was held in custody attended court on Thursday morning.

A 41-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday morning from the 800 block of 11th Street for reportedly trying to instigate a fight. Officers also found the man had an unendorsed warrant of arrest for failure to attend court. Following his arrest, he was held in detention and was expected to appear before a judge on Thursday.

Officers arrested a 22-year-old man on Wednesday evening from his residence on the 400 block of Park Street for violating the conditions of his probation. He was held in detention and attended court on Thursday morning.

DRUNK WOMAN ARRESTED

BPS officers received multiple calls on Wednesday morning to report the disturbance created by an intoxicated woman, 47, who at one point called the BPS herself. Officers attended to the woman’s residence on the 700th block of Sixth Street and arrested her. She was subjected to a medical examination, held in detention and released once sober.

MEN ARRESTED FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING

A male, 41, was arrested on charges of impaired driving late on Wednesday night, after he left a business in a heavily inebriated state. In another instance, a man, 40, was arrested for driving his motor vehicle into a snowbank in a state on intoxication. The vehicles of both the men were towed, and they were charged accordingly.
