WANTED WOMAN IN STOLEN VEHICLE
A 32-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday morning when Brandon police stopped a vehicle that was travelling the wrong way.
Police made the stop in the 200 block of 15th Street and say the woman, a passenger in the vehicle, was wanted by both the Brandon Police Service and Manitoba First Nations Police. They also later learned the vehicle she was in had been stolen.
The suspect has been charged with three counts of failing to attend court, one count of failing to comply with probation and possession of property obtained by crime. Charges are also pending against the driver, police said.
DISTRESS CALL LEADS TO ARREST
A woman who was reportedly in distress wound up in a cell.
Police said they were called around 2 p.m. on Wednesday to reports of a distressed woman at a Middleton Avenue restaurant but, in fact, it was learned the woman was not in distress. However, officers discovered she was wanted for a charge of assault with a weapon from Winnipeg.
The woman was also wanted on charges laid by the Manitoba First Nations Police for alleged motor vehicle theft, possession of property obtained by crime and mischief, police said.
The suspect was arrested, then released to appear in court in Emerson and Winnipeg at later dates.
KNIFE AND METH FOUND
City police report they apprehended a woman who was found with a knife and methamphetamine.
Police didn’t specifiy the circumstances of the arrest in the 100 block of Ninth Street on Wednesday, including how they’d come to interact with the woman and learned she was wanted on a warrant.
But, they report finding a knife and a small amount of meth on her while she was on an order not to have weapons or drugs. She was charged with breaches of that order and held in a cell pending a court appearance on Thursday.
