ASSAULT, DISOBEYING COURT ORDER

A 21-year-old Winnipeg man faces several charges following an assault early Tuesday morning.

At approximately 4:15 a.m., officers responded to a disturbance at a residence on the 600 block of Pacific Avenue.

A 27-year-old woman told police that a 21-year-old man from Winnipeg was under a court order not to come to her residence.

Police allege that the man had hit the woman numerous times in the head with a first aid kit, then stole her phone, bank card and mail and left before police arrived.

Officers caught up with the man at the corner of Victoria Avenue and First Street as he was trying to get away in a taxi. He had the woman’s possessions, and was arrested without incident, according to police.

The accused is on a release order from a previous assault involving the same woman, police report. He had been ordered not to be in the City of Brandon, not to attend her residence and abide by a 24-hour curfew in Winnipeg.

Police charged the 21-year old with assault with a weapon, theft and possession of stolen mail, as well as breaching his previous conditions.

He was held in a detention cell at BPS headquarters, and was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

SINGLE-VEHICLE ROLLOVER ON FIRST STREET BRIDGE

An 89-year-old man was rushed to hospital Monday morning following a single-vehicle rollover on the First Street bridge.

Police say a Ford Ranger was northbound on First Street at 11:12 a.m. when it lost control, hit the guard rail and flipped on its roof.

The 89-year-old man, who was driving, was taken to the Brandon Regional Health Centre with non-life-threatening injuries. The rollover is still under investigation, say police.

ARRESTS MADE ON OUTSTANDING WARRANTS

Brandon police arrested two people for outstanding warrants on Monday.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Monday, police observed a 23-year-old female walking in the 800 block of Pacific Avenue. The woman, who was known to have an outstanding warrant for breach of probation, was arrested and released with a Feb. 20 court date.

At 9 p.m. Monday, police conducted a traffic stop of a taxi in the 1400 block of Seventh Street. A 25-year-old passenger in the taxi wasn’t able to produce identification, and police were able to confirm through records checks that he provided them with a false name. Police identified the man, who had outstanding warrants for breaching her probation and for failing to comply with a release order. He was arrested and temporarily held in a detention cell before being released with a court date on Tuesday.
