MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT
Brandon Police Service (BPS) officers received a report on Wednesday afternoon of a 35-year-old male assaulting another man on the 200 block of 18th Street North. On arrival, officers found the accused to have been in the possession of an axe during the incident. He was seen fleeing from the scene and was later arrested. Drug paraphernalia and the axe were found in his possession, and he was also found to be violating earlier release conditions. The man was held in detention and attended court on Thursday morning.
MAN ARRESTED FOR SHOPLIFTING

Officers arrested a 30-year-old male accused of stealing $40 worth of merchandise from a store located on the 900 block of Victoria Avenue on Dec. 20. His identity was confirmed via video surveillance and officers found and arrested him on Wednesday afternoon on the 100 block of Fifth Street. He was held in detention and attended court on Thursday morning.
COUPLE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT
A 27-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were charged with assault on Wednesday by BPS officers after levelling allegations of assault against each other in separate instances. The woman entered a restaurant lounge late on Wednesday night and alleged she had been assaulted by the man — identified as an ex-boyfriend. Later that night, the same man told BPS officers he had been assaulted by the woman. Officers recorded statements from both, who were said to have minor physical injuries consistent with having been in an altercation. After being charged, the duo were released with an undertaking and will attend court on April 3.
MAN ARRESTED FOR CAR THEFTS, OTHER VIOLATIONS
BPS officers arrested a 27-year-old man on Wednesday, considered a suspect in connection with the theft of a truck from the 300 block of Lorne Avenue East on Jan. 10. At the time, the accused was caught on a doorbell camera, footage from which was used to execute a search warrant by BPS at the Brandon Correctional Centre (BCC) of his belongings. Officers also found him to be involved in the theft of a Winnipeg Nissan Rogue on Jan. 10., again caught on video surveillance. The accused was still in possession of the key fob from the stolen car, and is now bound by a release order prohibiting him from occupying a driver’s seat, or being inside a vehicle without the owner’s consent. He is also subject to three separate driving prohibitions, which were dealt with during a court appearance on Thursday, along with other charges.
