Man charged while in jail

A 21-year old man who is serving time at Brandon Correctional Centre has been charged with three counts of sexual assault and three counts of sexual interference.

Brandon police report that officers charged the man after conducting a historical sexual assault investigation. A woman disclosed that she was sexually assaulted by the 21-year-old man when she was seven years old, according to police. The man is still in custody at BCC and was scheduled for a court appearance on Tuesday.

Arrested on outstanding warrants

A 49-year-old man was arrested at a residence in the city’s west end Monday morning, in connection with an outstanding warrant issued by RCMP.

At 10:15 a.m., Brandon Police Service officers were dispatched to a residence on Clark Drive and arrested a 49-year-old man who was wanted for failing to comply with a release order and obstructing justice. He was taken to BPS headquarters and held in a detention cell until his Tuesday morning court appearance.

Meanwhile, a 46-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly failing to attend court.

Officers located the man in the 800 block of Pacific Avenue at 1:29 a.m. He was wanted in connection with an outstanding warrant for public mischief and two counts of failing to attend court.

Officers took the man into custody and held him overnight in a BPS detention cell for an appearance in court Tuesday morning.

Teen breaks curfew

A 16-year-old girl was arrested late Monday evening for disobeying court-ordered conditions, including breaking curfew, according to police.

At 10:52 p.m., police arrested the youth in the 1500 block of 26th Street while she was in a taxi, which was against a previous condition she had been given — not to ride in a cab without her mother present.

The girl was held in a Brandon Police Service detention cell with a scheduled court appearance on Tuesday morning.

Block heater causes fire

At 10 p.m. on Monday, BPS and Brandon Fire and Emergency Services responded to a report of a truck on fire. The caller said that flames were getting close to an adjacent home, police said.

Fire crews were able to put out the fire and say it was caused by a faulty block heater, adding that no one was injured and no damage was done to the home. The vehicle was towed.
