ARRESTS MADE IN SERIES OF ROBBERIES

A string of armed robberies across Manitoba came to an end when four men were arrested in Brandon on Sunday by members of the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) tactical support team.

The robberies targeted commercial businesses Feb. 7-14, in such locations as the Rural Municipality of Teulon, Swan Lake First Nation, the Rural Municipality of St. Laurent and Winnipeg.

The investigation led Winnipeg’s Major Crimes Unit to Brandon as it was believed the suspects had planned an additional robbery in the Wheat City, according to WPS.

The investigation began on Feb.13, when WPS officers responded to a commercial robbery in the north end of Winnipeg in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue.

Investigators linked that robbery with similar incidents where the suspects were wearing masks and armed with various weapons.

Four men aged 21 to 26 were arrested in Brandon without incident, WPS stated. Additional police support was provided by the RCMP and RCMP Major Crimes Unit, the Manitoba First Nations Police and the Brandon Police Service.

They have all be charged with five counts of armed robbery, four counts of disguise with intent, and theft under $5,000. As of Monday evening, they remained in custody.

CURFEW BREACH

A 45-year-old woman was charged with disobeying her curfew, according to Brandon police officers, who say they saw her while on patrol.

Just before 9 p.m. Sunday, officers were doing a walk-through of a business in the first block of 10th Street. They say a woman was breaching curfew conditions that had been set in a previous release order.

The woman was released and given a notice to appear in court in April.

WANTED MAN FOUND

At 1:30 a.m. Monday, Brandon police officers were called to a building in the first block of 10th Street. The report was of an unwanted man who had locked himself in a bathroom.

Officers said they discovered that the 41-year-old man was the subject of outstanding warrant for his arrest for breaching probation, theft, and three counts of failing to appear in court.

Police said that when the man was searched they found a small amount of methamphetamine. He was taken to a detention cell at the Brandon police station and held overnight for an appearance in court.

PAIR OF DISTURBANCES

A 59-year old woman was arrested after police responded to a report of two adult sisters fighting in the 200 block of Eighth St.

Officers arrived at a residence shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday and determined the 59-year-old was the issue. She was arrested, charged with breaching the peace and held in a cell at the Brandon police station until sober.

An hour and a half later, officers answered a call to remove a 34-year old woman from a home in the 800 block of Second St. She was trashing the home, police say, and was held in custody until sober.

POLICE LOCATE WANTED MAN

An 18-year-old man who was wanted for allegedly breaching his curfew, was stopped by Brandon police officers early Sunday morning.

At about 12:30 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of Ninth St. An 18-year-old man who was a passenger was wanted for an outstanding warrant. He was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a release order, plus a new charge of breaching his curfew.

POLICE OFFICER ASSAULTED

A 37-year-old man was charged with assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest after an alleged incident at a business in the 800 block of Rosser Ave.

Shortly after 6 a.m. on Friday, Brandon police responded to a report of a security officer who had been hit and pushed. The 37-year old had been told to leave the business several times, police said, but he’d refused and hit and pushed the employee.

Police arrested the man, then released him with a court date of April 14, 2025.
