Brandon University’s educational psychology expert Aloysius Anyichie has published a book on learning in diverse classrooms to offer educators and policymakers a transformative model that integrates Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) with Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) to enhance student engagement and motivation.

Titled “Self-Regulated Learning and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy: An Integrated Approach to Fostering All Learners’ Engagement and Motivation,” the book is now available through Lexington Books, Anyichie said.

It introduces the Culturally Responsive Self-Regulated Learning (CR-SRL) Framework, which leverages students’ cultural strengths alongside self-directed learning skills to foster academic success in diverse classrooms.

“Equipping students with SRL skills in a culturally responsive context is crucial in today’s diverse classrooms,” he said. “This book provides an approach that values each student’s individuality, enhancing both engagement and motivation.”

The book draws on the author’s extensive research and experience in learner engagement, motivation, and self-regulated learning, particularly within culturally diverse educational settings, a university press release stated.

Through case studies and evidence-based strategies, it added, the publication provides practical guidance on how educators can empower students to take ownership of their learning while recognizing and incorporating their cultural backgrounds.

Designed for K-12 and higher education professionals, as well as policymakers, the book serves as a resource for creating inclusive, equitable, and engaging learning environments. It underscores the importance of fostering self-regulated learning skills in a way that acknowledges and respects students’ diverse experiences.
