BRANDON UNIVERSITY
Con-septs, a septet of jazz students will perform a free concert tonight at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall beginning at 6:30. The main event for jazz fans begins later this week, with the BU Jazz Festival running from Thursday to Saturday. The festival will include showcase concerts on Thursday and Friday at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. A stellar lineup of talented musicians will take part as guest performers, including JUNO Award winners and nominees. “Friendly Manitoba?” — a short anti-racism film — will be screened at the Evans Theatre on Tuesday, beginning at 12:40 p.m. Following the screening of the film, which was based on stories from 500 people in Manitoba through BU research, attendees will hear from creators of the film and take part in discussion groups. Everyone is welcome.
This is the final week for No Limits, a student art exhibition on display at the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art on campus. The gallery hours are from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, and from 1 to 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Poet, journalist and Mount Saint Vincent University Assistant Professor Dr. El Jones will deliver the Beyond Gender annual lecture series event on Thursday. Dr. Jones will talk about Black feminist practices of care against a backdrop of carcerality. The talk will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Gathering Space of the John E. Robbins Library.
Phil Owens of the University of Northern British Columbia will give an online talk about contaminants in glacial environments for the Science Seminar Series this week. The talk will take place on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Email TeepleH@BrandonU.ca for more information. Dr. Stacey Koosel will talk about Indigenous contemporary art and decolonizing curatorial practices in a Faculty of Arts Speaker Series event on Friday, starting at 3:40 p.m. The Event will take place in Room 104 of Clark Hall.
After the Bobcats futsal teams compete for the Manitoba Colleges championships this week at Assiniboine College, the Bobcats men’s volleyball squad will challenge for a national title as they host the U SPORTS championship at the Healthy Living Centre, from March 21 to 23.
