• Day — The Brandon Light Horse and Pony Society Inc. is hosting a Hunter/Jumper Show at the Keystone Centre in the indoor show ring over the weekend.
• 9 a.m. — The Brandon Farmers’ Market takes place every Friday at The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave.), with fresh produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickling, crafts, beeswax candles and more until 4 p.m. This farmers’ market runs year-round.
• Noon — The Nifty Needlers “Art of Quilting Show” will be held at the Riverview Curling Club (420 Maryland Ave.). The show is designed to showcase the capacity and talents of the Nifty Needler members, with displays of artistic quilts, wall hangings and other articles. Hours: noon to 6 p.m. Admission is $5. • 5:30 p.m. — Join us for a walk on the first day of the iNaturalist City Nature Challenge. This is the fourth year that Brandon is participating in the four-day event dedicated to observing anything and everything natural around the city. The Brandon project is organized by the Brandon City Nature Challenge, and you can find them on Facebook or Instagram. Meet at the parking lot of the Riverbank Discovery Centre at 5:30 p.m. We will walk along the path looking for any plants that are sprouting and birds that are enjoying the spring weather. No signup is required for this event, though there will be a waiver to sign.
• 7 p.m. — Minnedosa Performing Arts, Expressions Concert Series presents Dirty Catfish Brass Band at the Minnedosa Community Conference Centre (63 Main St. North). Doors open at 7 p.m.; concert at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and are available at Minnedosa Regional Library and Eventbrite.ca

• 9 a.m. — The United Way Brandon and District presents Brandon’s Largest Indoor Garage Sale in the Manitoba Room at the Keystone Centre until 3 p.m. Admission is $3 (children 12 and under are free).
• 9 a.m. — The Brandon Kiwanis Club’s Bicycle Auction will be held in the Brandon Curling Club at the Keystone Centre. Viewing at 9 a.m.; auction at 10 a.m. All sales are final. All proceeds from the sale are used for community projects. We sell bicycles that the Brandon Police Service has collected. People can reclaim their bicycles if they can provide proof that it was stolen from them, usually a photo or serial number. We also obtain and sell donated bicycles.

• 1:30 p.m. — The Arts West Council and Reston Art Club will host the 46th annual Westman Juried Art Show at the RES Centre (143 Third Ave., Reston). The show features the work of Westman region adult and youth artists. Jurors Ben Davis of Brandon and Leona Brown of Winnipeg will select 20 pieces for the Travelling Gallery, which will tour communities in the Westman region for the next year. • 9 a.m. — The annual Milestones Preschool Wellness Fair will be held at the Keystone Centre (upper concourse) until 6 p.m. This year, we are very excited to be offering vision and dental screenings in addition to the usual developmental speech and language and audiology assessments and immunizations. This is a great event for all parents to bring their three- and four-year-old children to complete health and development screenings and be introduced to the services and supports in the community that are available for their families. Registrations are accepted until 5 p.m.
• 7 p.m. — The Manitoba Band Association, Family of Festivals Westman Band Celebration Concert takes place at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium featuring Royal Canadian Air Force Band, Capt. • Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia. Exhibit “Who’s In That Photo? Discovering Brandon’s Polish Roots in Photography,” on loan from Ottawa genealogist Frank Cedar, features 58 reproduced photos on immigration to Canada and the Prairies in the late 1800s. On display until April 30. Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). • Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and gift shop that supports more than 60 local Manitoba artists. “Prairie Thunder” in the Main Gallery now until June 7, featuring Indigenous women artists from across the Prairies and curated by Stacey Koosel and Marie-Anne Redhead. Kayes Community Gallery: “This Is Us: Indigenous Identity Beyond Blood,” on display now until May 3 and co-ordinated by the Indigenous Peoples Centre, Brandon University and BU CARES. • Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. We have a new documentary photography exhibit titled “We Are Brandon,” by Weichen Zhang, which is on display for the month of April. This incredible series showcases many of the wonderful people that make Brandon a unique and special place and is viewable during our regular hours. Our next show and tell on May 3 at 2 p.m. features Gillian and Gwynfor Richards with their presentation, “Birdwatching in Westman.” Informal Q&A to follow. • Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. The museum has a number of British Commonwealth Air Training Plan aircraft, various aircraft engines and parts, all courtesy of the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada. The CATPM at the Brandon Municipal Airport has reopened for the season from 1 to 4 p.m. Our gallery will be unveiling new interpretive displays explaining the BCATP. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a Second World War-vintage hangar serving as a display for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. • Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — We opened our new temporary exhibit, marking the 110th anniversary of the start of the First World War. The main features of the exhibit include a trench wall, First World War artillery and two machine-gun pits. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. • The Curve Gallery (Brandon University’s John E. Robbins Library) — “CURVE,” Brandon University’s exhibit in the FLASH Photography Festival, is on display this month. This is the first time in its 10-year history that the FLASH Photography Festival is expanding outside of Winnipeg. Brandon University is highlighting 16 works by nine BU students and employees. The exhibit can be viewed at any time during library hours.
• Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m.; closed all statutory holidays. Special tours can be arranged by calling 204-554-0023. • ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Thursday; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday; closed on weekends.
• Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — Museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware and lumber merchant and prominent citizen in the community. The main house depicts how a family in the Victorian era would have lived. There are also two additional annexes and a coach house available for viewing. Currently closed for the season. • Arts West Travelling Gallery — featuring work by Westman region artists will be on exhibition at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium (205 20th St.) from April 29 to May 26. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. Work on display was chosen from entries to the 2024 Westman Juried Art Show.

• May 1 — The annual Brandon Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement Awards Gala takes place in the UCT Pavilion and Manitoba Room at the Keystone Centre. Join us for an evening that honours the incredible achievements of our Brandon business community. Sip on beverages and enjoy delicious appetizers at the reception for the event. As the evening unfolds, settle in for a five-course dinner. Formal attire. Doors to reception open at 5 p.m.; call to dinner at 6:10 p.m. Cost is $155 plus GST per seat. • May 1 — The Pinkest Owl has partnered with Joe Beeverz Pub for a Comedy Night at the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba Dome Building. • May 2-4 — The Brandon Rock N’ Gem show will be held at the Keystone Centre with a stunning showcase of crystals, minerals, fossils, jewelry and so much more. • May 8 — The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba’s Art Auction 2025 takes place in the historic Dome Building on the Keystone Centre grounds from 5:30 to 10 p.m. We have invited special guests and local artists to pair up and fight it out in an art battle. Guests will enjoy a delicious dinner and drinks as well as both a silent and live auction. This is our largest annual fundraiser.
