The Manitoba Room at the Keystone Centre was filled with energy on Saturday as United Way Brandon & District hosted its 13th annual Brandon’s Largest Indoor Garage Sale, drawing thousands of bargain hunters and community members.

With over 80 vendors spread across more than 140 tables, the event marked a lively kickoff to the spring garage sale season, organizer Janis Evens told the Sun.

“The spring sale is always a huge event because it’s kind of the opening of garage sale season,” she said. “There’s always tons and tons of people coming through the door.”

United Way Brandon and District’s 13th annual Brandon’s Largest Indoor Garage Sale organizer Janis Evens said that, as of mid-Saturday, between 2,500 and 3,000 people had already come through to browse the wide assortment of items on offer, from household goods and collectibles to clothing and crafts. By midday, organizers estimated that between 2,500 and 3,000 people had already come through to browse the wide assortment of items on offer, from household goods and collectibles to clothing and crafts.

While this year’s spring sale matched the size of last year’s event, Evens noted that the fall sale traditionally draws a slightly smaller crowd. Still, the enthusiasm from both vendors and shoppers remains strong year-round.

The event was made possible through the efforts of a dedicated group of volunteers, who were on site as early as 6 a.m. to help vendors unload, manage admissions and sell 50/50 tickets.

“We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the volunteers,” Evens said. “We have the greatest, greatest volunteers ever.”
