RCMP SEIZE LARGE AMOUNT OF CASH

A large amount of cash was seized Tuesday afternoon after RCMP pulled a vehicle over on Highway 16 and Road 100, about nine kilometres southeast of Minnedosa.

The Manitoba RCMP Roving Traffic Unit stopped the vehicle at about 2 p.m. because of a violation of the Highway Traffic Act, RCMP said in a news release. The vehicle was being driven by a 24-year-old man from Stony Plain, Alta.

Officers searched the vehicle and found a large amount of Canadian currency. They charged the man with trafficking in property obtained by crime over $5,000, and released him with a future date in court.

RCMP continue to investigate.

STORE EMPLOYEE ASSAULTED

A 27-year-old woman was charged with assault Wednesday night after a North Hill store employee was punched several times in the face, Brandon Police Service said in a news release.

Officers responded to the 1200 block of First Street North at 10 p.m. and arrested the suspect. Prior to the alleged assault, the woman had been asked to leave the property and refused.

Police took her to BPS headquarters and held her in a detention cell to be released once sober. She was given a court date of July 7 to face the assault charge.

VEHICLE SIDESWIPED

A 24-year-old woman was given an immediate roadside prohibition and had her vehicle towed Wednesday night after a man called police to report someone had sideswiped his vehicle.

The man was sitting in his parked vehicle in the 2500 block of McDonald Avenue around 10 p.m. when it was hit by a another vehicle along the driver’s side. The man was able to capture the licence plate.

Police found the driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, and say she failed two approved screening device tests — also known as a breathalyzer.
