Eight children were sent to hospital with minor injuries on Tuesday morning after a school bus rear-ended a tractor in the Rural Municipality of Grey.

Treherne RCMP received a report at about 9 a.m. of the collision near the intersection of Road 37 West and Road 43 North.

The bus was transporting 31 children in the Prairie Spirit School Division, RCMP said in a release on Tuesday.

RCMP learned through its initial investigation that a grader was travelling south down Road 37 West pushing debris along the road with a tractor collecting it when the school bus rear-ended the tractor. The grader was not involved in the collision.

When officers got to the scene, emergency medical services were already attending to the occupants of the bus.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital as a precaution. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision.

PSSD Supt. Cheryl Mangin said support vehicles were onsite and the division’s student response team is in place to support students and the school community.

Treherne RCMP and Manitoba RCMP Criminal Collision Investigative Team continue to investigate.
