Woman killed in rollover
A 59-year-old woman from Ochre River died after her vehicle rolled over Friday night in the Rural Municipality of Lakeshore.
Dauphin RCMP received a report at 11:45 p.m. of an iPhone crash notification close to Highway 5, near Ochre River, RCMP said in a news release on Tuesday. An update identified the crash as a single-vehicle rollover on Road 140.
Officers went to the scene and saw a vehicle had entered a water-filled ditch and rolled. RCMP said they believe the driver of the eastbound vehicle lost control on the gravel road when the vehicle crossed the rail line.
Passersby pulled the driver from the vehicle. Emergency medical services provided assistance to the woman, who was later pronounced dead.
Dauphin RCMP continue to investigate.
Arrest warrant
An intoxicated woman with previous charges of manslaughter and failure to comply with a release order was found passed out at Brandon Police Service headquarters on Monday, BPS said in a news release.
The woman was dropped off around 6 p.m. and passed out in the front vestibule.
Police say the woman, 37, had an unendorsed warrant for arrest and a release-order clause not to consume alcohol. Because of her intoxication levels, she was transported by ambulance to the Brandon Regional Health Centre.
The woman was later held in a detention cell at the police station so she could appear in court on Tuesday morning.
The release said the woman’s previous charges include manslaughter from Manitoba First Nations Police Service and failure to comply with a release order from the Winnipeg Police Service.
She now has a new charge for failing to comply with a release order.
