• 9 a.m. — The Brandon Farmers’ Market takes place every Friday at The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave.), with fresh produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickling, crafts, beeswax candles and more until 4 p.m. This farmers’ market runs year-round.
• 6 p.m. — “Sesame Street Live! Say Hello” at Westoba Place. Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster and their friends from Sesame Street are stopping by to say hello at 6 p.m. Sing, dance and play along with your furry friends. Sensory notice: This show contains flashing lights, haze (fog) and confetti.

• 10 a.m. — National Indigenous Peoples Day will be celebrated in Brandon at the Riverbank Discovery Centre (545 Conservation Dr.) with a pipe ceremony at 10 a.m. followed by the opening ceremonies at noon. Julianna Moore will be performing as well as Mitchell Makoons Duo. Also features Powwow demos, Métis Tradition and live jigging as well as a Bighetty and Bighetty puppet show. Displays, vendors, children’s activities and much more.
• 11 a.m. — The Madesa MX Motocross Manitoba Provincial Championships Round 5 take place at Virden. Located six miles northeast of Virden. From the Trans-Canada Highway, take Commonwealth Drive north to PR 259; turn right for one mile; turn left for three miles; turn right for one mile. More than 300 riders will enjoy the only track in Canada with a mesh starting gate during competitions. Spectators can see 95 per cent of the track from the built-up grandstand. Smoked and Sauced Food Trucks on site. Today is open practice from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Noon — Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Family Fun Day features fun for the kids, sports activities, fireworks and much more. Events begin at noon at the park followed by giant hamster ball (4 person); gladiator jousting; foam party; mini mechanical bull; 3-on-3 basketball tournament, volleyball tournament and slo-pitch baseball. Light supper provided. Family Fun Day free concert at 6 p.m.

• 5:30 p.m. — The ever-popular Lobsterfest returns to CFB Shilo’s Building L-25. Event features a delicious steak and lobster dinner with live music and amazing prizes. • Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia. Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). • Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and gift shop that supports more than 70 local Manitoba artists. Coming to the Main Gallery is “Through my window, there is a view,” with artist Opeyemi Olukotun. Opening reception is Thursday at 7 p.m. Lunch and Look Guided Tour of the exhibition with the artist and curator on Friday at noon. In the Kayes Community Gallery is “Attached” with Carberry-based artist Clemente Villamayor (aka Tengnamoe) showing until July 12. • Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Summer hours for the museum are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our gallery has new interpretive displays explaining the BCATP. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a Second World War-vintage hangar serving as a display for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. RCAF members who lost their lives during the Second World War are honoured on the museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial Wall. • Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — We opened our new temporary exhibit, marking the 110th anniversary of the start of the First World War. • July 3 — Cruise Night takes place in downtown Brandon on Rosser Avenue between Sixth Street and 13th Street from 6 to 9 p.m. People wishing to show their vehicles are encouraged to enter the event at the intersection of Rosser Avenue and 13th Street. • July 4 — Kick off to Summer dinner and dance takes place at Sporty’s in Onanole at 5:30 p.m. Live music, great food, cash bar. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at WCA or Sporty’s. This is a fundraiser for Wasagaming Community Arts Programming and Exhibitions.
• July 5 — The Killarney Community Events Committee presents a Kickoff to Summer with a performance by Jade Eaglson at the Killarney Ag grounds (50 Water Ave.) at 4 p.m. with special guest Steven Lee Olsen. Road Rebels Poker Derby is back and registration is on Princess Avenue in front of Select 6 Brewing at 10 a.m. with derby starting at 10:30 a.m.
• July 11-13 — Gilbert Plains/Grandview Agricultural Society Fair and Races featuring horse shows, parade, petting zoo, kids zone, beer gardens, bingo, trade shows, slo-pitch, chuckwagon and chariot races and live entertainment .
• July 11-13 — Souris Peacock Days and Fair. Parade theme this year is Carnival with the energy of Rio de Janerio.
• July 14 — Oak River Agricultural Society Fair. Pancake breakfast at 7 a.m.; horse and cattle shows, horticultural show, Classic Car show, Manitoba Gymkhana Rodeo Association.
• July 15 — Strathclair Agricultural Society Fair. Pancake breakfast at 6:30 a.m.; horse and cattle shows, parade, horticultural show, decorated bike competition, children’s activities, entertainment in the arena with Julianna Moore, Manitoba Gymkhana Rodeo Association.
• July 16 — Shoal Lake Agricultural Society Fair. Pancake breakfast at 6:30 a.m., horse show, parade, cattle and horse judging, children’s activities, petting zoo, farmer’s market, Manitoba Gymkhana Rodeo Association. Admission is $6 for adults; youth $2; 6 and under are free.
• July 17 — Hamiota Agricultural Society Fair. Free pancake breakfast at 9 a.m.; parade at 9 a.m., light horse and pony classes, rodeo events, heavy horses cattle events, grain and garden produce competition, photography and painting competition, petting farm, magic show, mini golf, Road Apples musical event, karate show, and much more as well as the Hamiota Red Sox Seniors Baseball game.
• July 18 — Harding Ag Society Fair. Pancake breakfast at 6:30 a.m. Classes and entries for pony and light horse, heavy and miniature horse, cattle and home living. Jackpot pole bending, MBRA sanctioned 3D Jackpot barrel racing.
• July 18-20 — Wawanesa Pound Pail Paddle kicks off on Friday night with magician Anders Boulanger and a family dance. Social at the hall featuring live music by 8 Track Shuffle, boat Calcutta. Saturday has the Fire Fighter Breakfast at the Rec Centre at 8 a.m., boat building, town-wide parade, boat races, beer gardens and local talent show case.
• Aug. 10 —Ladies Western Scramble at Wheat City Golf Course has a 10 a.m. shotgun start. Deadline for entry is Aug. 4. Entry fee for this two-lady team event is $85, $40 for juniors with proceeds going to the Westman Women’s Shelter. For more information or to e-transfer contact Brenda at 204 721-1488.
