TWO SUSPICIOUS FIRES

Officials are investigating two suspicious fires in Brandon that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.

Brandon Police Service and Brandon Fire and Emergency Services were sent to a fire on the 300 block of Southern Avenue at 4:36 a.m.

The fire “fully engulfed” a vehicle and spread to a garage and overhead power lines, police said in a news release Wednesday.

Manitoba Hydro was notified.

Later that morning, at around 6 a.m., 911 alerted BPS and BFES of a detached garage fire on the 1300 block of Seventh Street.

Police said pieces of an empty fire starter box were scattered near the garage.

BPS said the fire was “suspicious in nature” and both fires are under investigation.

MISCHIEF AND RESISTING ARREST

Brandon Police Service arrested a man after he allegedly smashed a vehicle window on Tuesday morning.

Police were flagged down at around 11:30 a.m. and told that a man had smashed a vehicle window on the 600 block of Pacific Avenue, BPS said in a news release Wednesday.

Police said they found the suspect and arrested him after a brief chase.

A 29-year-old man was charged with mischief under $5,000 and resisting arrest.

He was released with a court date of Sept.15.
