A strong response to The Brandon Chamber of Commerce’s two-part public survey on the potential for a direct Brandon to Toronto flight is encouraging, president Jennifer Ludwig told the Sun.

Talks with an air carrier, which hasn’t been named, continue behind the scenes, Ludwig added.

She said both parts of the survey — designed to assess local interest and travel preferences — received “great uptake and response rates.”

While Ludwig did not disclose specific numbers or trends, citing confidentiality agreements, she noted that the second survey was especially useful in revealing the community’s flight time preferences, types of travel, and acceptable price points.

Ludwig said the data was collected to be shared with the air carrier and didn’t provide specifics, but the second survey was important to understanding how people in this area like to travel.

“We had great uptake and response rates to both. In order to ensure that the second survey was well received, it was branded differently and specific marketing details were included to ensure that people knew that this was not just the same survey being done again.”

The chamber has been in active contact with a prospective air carrier, though Ludwig wouldn’t name the airline. She described the response from the company as “positive,” and said discussions continue.

“The chamber is working hard to ensure the interested party has access to the information they require to help make a decision related to a Brandon-Toronto flight,” she said.

No formal timeline has been set for an announcement or decision, but Ludwig said the chamber continues to collaborate with both the City of Brandon and the Manitoba government to secure eastbound air service for business and leisure travellers.

“We know that people in Brandon and the surrounding area see this as a need,” Ludwig said. “The results of the second survey were very helpful in determining the breakdown of business versus leisure travellers, and the air carrier has been receptive to this information.”

Ludwig said that during discussions with the airline, the chamber will work to ensure any proposed schedule meets the community’s needs, including convenient flight times, connections and frequency.
