A Souris couple faces drug charges after police seized about 750 grams of illegal drugs following a traffic stop near Virden last month.

The Manitoba Integrated Law Enforcement Team (MILET) started a drug investigation involving individuals from Souris in April, leading them to conduct a traffic stop on the evening of June 24 on the Trans-Canada Highway near Virden.

The man and woman in the vehicle, both from Souris, were arrested immediately for possession for the purpose of trafficking.

During an initial search of the vehicle, officers found what they believed to be about 250 grams of cocaine and 500 grams of methamphetamine, along with Canadian currency, RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.

Cpl. Murray Haggerty from MILET said the investigation wouldn’t have been possible without Virden RCMP, the RCMP west district Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team, and Brandon, Regina and Saskatoon police services.

“We would like to thank all these organizations for their assistance and support as this has had a significant impact on the small community of Souris and all surrounding communities,” Haggerty said.

Shaun Dalke, 33, and Karlan Maginel, 31, have been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.

Dalke was also charged with possession of property obtained by crime.

Both were released and will appear in court at a future date.
