Drowning in Sandy Lake
A Brandon man drowned in Sandy Lake on Saturday evening.
Yellowhead RCMP were sent to Sandy Lake Beach at about 11 p.m. and found emergency responders performing CPR on a man, who was later pronounced dead.
Police said Monday that the 32-year-old man had been swimming in the lake with three other people when they noticed the man was missing.
He was found in the water and brought to a nearby dock, where he received medical assistance.
RCMP said no criminality is suspected.
Brandon police officer performs first aid
A Brandon Police Service officer applied a tourniquet to a man and successfully controlled his bleeding after finding him with a “severe laceration” to his arm on Sunday.
Police responded to a call on Cornell Bay about a 28-year-old man with a laceration to his arm at around 7 p.m.
The man had arterial bleeding and was losing a significant amount of blood, BPS said in a news release.
Police said the man lost consciousness and collapsed, striking his head on the concrete.
An officer who was the first one at the scene applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding, the release said.
When the man regained consciousness, he told police the injury was self-inflicted, police said.
Paramedics transported him to Brandon Regional Health Centre for further medical treatment.
Man dies in ATV rollover
An Ebb and Flow First Nation man died on the weekend in an ATV rollover.
Responders found the all-terrain vehicle off North Central Road on the First Nation Saturday morning. It was lying on its side in a creek with roughly three feet of water, RCMP said in a news release Monday.
Police said the vehicle hit a steep slope, causing the ATV to roll over and pin the driver, 53, who was pronounced dead on the scene.
He was not wearing a helmet, RCMP said.
